Museum is small in comparison to Steamtown in Scranton or the B&O Museum in Baltimore. But for a small museum it's worth the visit if you're a RR buff.

This has a small museum but the staff in attendance showed no interest in my visit so was left to wander alone. There is an uninspiring garden railway and a slightly better model railway inside. There is a fair variety of rolling stock and a nice steam locomotive, BUT they only run excursions on a few weekends each year and nothing was moving on my visit.I was somewhat disappointed

Excellent for the children. You can now book on line. Last year many times were booked out so book early. The Santa is excellent. A 45 minute ride.

It's a low cost afternoon for both young and old who enjoy trains. Adults $1 and children under 12 years .50 cents, can climb on the trains, visit the museum and learn the history of railways in morris county, and interact with the model train setup 0 Scale layout of the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railways. On the grounds are historic water tank, coal loaders, a freight house, historic signs featuring Anthracite coal advertizing. A 1923 ex-Pennsylvania Railroad N6b cabin car (caboose) is fully remodeled to the era. The Jersey Coast Club Car (1927) has leather chairs, mahogany interior, stained glass and old time cooling fans. Both railroad cars are used in 45 minute roundtrip rides which are offered on Sundays from 12 pm to 4 pm. Check their website for dates. The 45 minute rides cost $17adults (Club Car)and $14 adults (Caboose). Two locomotives from the Virginia Blue Ridge Railway are also operational and are on the premises. In previous years I have taken the Annual Santa Claus train excursion which was great fun. Kids in particular love the bells, whistles and headlights as they ride along the tracks. The staff is knowledgable, friendly and really into trains. Their enthusiasm is contagious. Take a ride back in time, you might love it.

Truth here and that's is what we all want!Well is something you might not know I'm a railroad fan, actually been involved in the scene for the past 30 years.1st time visiting Whippany Railroad, it's a small railroad in NJ and only runs trips a few times a year so check there website. The reason there is only a few trips is because they have about 10 cabooses and just 2 coaches so in the summer very hard to run trips because the cabooses get to hot and 2 coaches is not enough to fit all the customers.I was fortunate to travel on the 15.00 on fathers day and what a treat I'm a diesel man not steam so I was delighted to find Alco # 18 on the train, the conductor was 1 of the kindest & friendliest railway men I have ever met. Support this railway it's 1 of the best, friendly & fun.

Now you have to understand, I am a mom of a 4 year old boy, who loves trains. Did I mention he REALLY LOVES TRAINS. So we got there and they don't take Debit cards. :( ok, bank is next door - one on either side, so that works. ... We bought tickets to ride the train, and wandered around the 'train yard' checking out all the trains inside and out (and under). the staff was just wonderful, allowing him (everyone really) 'free access' to the trains - the stories of each train, coach car, all framed inside each. My curious george had me read every one of the framed stories. He had such a great time wandering and then the TRAIN was coming!!! so we boarded the train and went for a 40-45 minute ride. He so enjoyed the ride! when we got back to the station, (I had to go home and make dinner) there was a balloon man making 'things' for the children, we of course had to get one. In order to go home, I had to promise to bring him back again. After thought, we never even got into the museum, the free stuff outside the museum was enough to take in on the first trip, the museum - we will be back for that! Hopefully he'll let me check it out. they did have a 'snack/drink' stand - nothing for major allergy sufferers but soda and water were available. (I always bring because of his allergies - but it would be nice if the brands of chips and snacks offered were top 8 allergen free)

A railfan's paradise with many unique and rare offerings. The collection within the museum building is a loving representation of our once-mighty rail network. A fading breed, the private cars in storage on the museum's tracks exemplify luxury and first class. I would only suggest a greater emphasis on a respectful investigation of Pullman Porters, chefs and waiters, and all car attendants. The cars are nice but the efforts of the men and women who put the "class" in first class should not be forgotten.

My son loves trains, so I figured this would be great for him. It is best to order your tickets online because they sell out fast. The train ride was fun, for parents with kids, the horn blows 4 times before it enters a intersection, so you will need to cover their ears or bring headphones. The train goes about 20 minutes in each direction and is pretty cool. This isn't Amtrak so the best time to go is now since it's not so hot. They had a small train exhibit where three trains, one being Thomas the train, rode up and down the tracks. My son liked this alot. They have a small gift store ($1 for adults, 50Cents for children. It was small, but alot of information for adults with another small train exhibit in the middle of the store. They do not sell food, just chips and drinks (soda, water, etc)I would come again....
