Driving by the mostly residential, and commercial roads of New Jersey, about twenty miles or so west of Ocean City, you find several golf courses, several of which I have been fortunate enough to play. Yesterday our group played Ballamor. You can easily drive past the gated entrance, that is marked by only a mid-sized sign that you can miss while driving. Once past the gate, there is a short ride along the drive to the clubhouse, and bag drop. The employees at the bag drop and cart set up were first rate. Went inside to pay, and the guys at check in again were first rate; friendly, funny, informal. Jersey has kind of a reputation for "service with a snarl" but these guys were all about good service and a great attitude. i had to check my GPS to make sure i was still in Jersey. Course itself is immaculately kept and the large greens are well groomed. Fairways are wide, and most feature bunkers, as do many of the greens. it is easy to find the fairways. course has a wide range of tee boxes, so anyone can play. water comes in play only a few times. greens are large, starter said about a two club length difference front to back, but i do not think that great a disparity. greens are multi-tiered, and feature i believe 6 different pin locations. we had location 3 for our round. location is posted on cart, so you know where to shoot onto the greens. carts do not have GPS, but there were plenty of sprinkler heads and markers for the distances. cart girl Maryann was the absolute best, and kept us "hydrated" throughout the round. she was also quite funny and with a great sense of humor. in a way, she was like everyone we met there. i have never felt so at home on a course where i did not know anyone, which to me is a big compliment. we found out that several of the staff has worked at the nearly Atlantic City casinos, so maybe that explains their commitment to quality service. did not stay for the lunch special which starts at 3:30 pm but some of the guys did. all in all, one of the best golf experiences i have had, and certainly the best i have had in NJ. great, fair, course. not punitive. rough is not too bad, and you CAN find you ball so the round goes quickly. staff was wonderful. facilities were great. My compliments - i would love to go back.A big thank you to our coordinator (retired Phila. police detective) who helps us get great group rates and golf courses for our mostly Philly/ South Jersey golf group.

2nd group out at 6:30 am, late August morning Sunny, 57 degrees, 0% Humidity. Course was in pristine condition, greens ran true, but fast, Fairways & Bunkers were well kept, scoring was a challenge from the back tee's. Cart girl didn't catch us until 18th fairway, but then again we were done at 3 hours 20 minutes. Great way to start the weekend.. Must play this !!
