I know wine and New Jersey seems oxymoronic, but I promise you, one visit to Amalthea and you will be a believer! Louis is a magician, putting out wines that rival the Chateaus of France. Tastings are generous, poured by a very knowledgeable staff, with something for every palate. My favorites are the Carme and any of the Europa blends. Don't miss out on the seasonal wines, spring blend, etc, that you buy in a growler type container. Made to be drunk, as they are right out if the barrel, the value is amazing.

It's true I visited the winery during a wedding, so it's hard to have a bad time. The grounds are quaint, and you feel like you're on a little colonial farm with a cottage when you arrive. The people that ran the event, also the people that would be running a tasting, were unfailingly 1) polite 2) knowledgeable 3) patient - eh hem drunk visitors 4) businesslike. Our party went pretty late, and at 9pm I asked if I could buy a few bottles of the wine we'd been drinking at the reception. Absolutely. The door to the winery was opened, lights turned on, and bottles purchased. I'm a snob. I had no idea east coast wine could be this good.

Amalthea Cellars is off the beaten trail yet it's a quiet respite from the commercialization that occurs in many wineries. We visited on a Sunday and tasted the Reds and Premium Red for $10 per person. Of the 12 or so red wines we tasted about half had the complete character that we enjoy most. If you go, pack a lunch or snack, taste some wines, buy a bottle and enjoy their patio under the shade trees. The best deal around is their Cantini Mas: a gallon of wine (equivalent to 5 bottles) in an airtight container for $42.99 with refills only $36.99. You can't beat $8/bottle. The only down side is Amalthea's best wines, like all others in NJ and PA, are priced in the $25-$35 range. While there's a lot of great wines out there for that price, I'm sure you'll enjoy the staff and atmosphere at Amalthea Cellars.

A world class winery in New Jersey? YES! I have tasted, and purchased, all of their reds and would be hard pressed to pick a favorite. The same for their semi sweet varieties. We've brought friends with us on a number of occasions who know far more about wines than we do and they were truly amazed at the wines Amalthea produces. It's certainly worth a trip to Atco NJ.

Its located in a terrible area, but worth the experience. Regular tastings are free and you can buy by the glass. A large selection of wines, most of which are of good quality and a few real standouts, particularly the cab frank and pinot grigio. The pricing seems demand based which is good since there are fewer sellouts of the great wines than other wineries. I would gladly pay more for the best, and there is almost nothing over $35. Their unique specialty is a house wine placed in a large bladder that holds 5 1/2 bottles. It is excellent, inexpensive and great for parties. They have regular events and education workshops which are good. One recommendation is to sell crackers and cheese on site.

Love this place. The old building is so charming where they do the tastings. I love the Europa wines they have. Their wines are made in the old world style. The barrel tasting is usually in July and is wonderful and you can order a case for future pick up and get a 10% discount. It's a great place to sit outside and eat and drink a bottle of the wine just purchased.

Stopped by Almathea for a tasting on our way to the Jersey shore. Small but nice rustic interior with pleasant character. The tasting was impressive..included many options. Our favorite was the Pinot Grigio. The server was very knowledgeable and friendly. With the exception of being unable to identify the grapes involved in one of the wines, this tasting was exceptional. Upon visiting other wineries in the area, Almathea was mentioned with high regard, especially of it's winemaker and quality blends. Stop by if you're in NJ...apparently they set the bar!

Although we live so close we had no idea that this hidden gem existed! We went here during the the wine and chocolate trail weekend and loved it!!! The outside is very charming, romantic and inviting...there's a real old world rustic charm about this winery. The wine tasting presentation was very informative as we're the gracious staff. The wine variety and taste was excellent and better than most New Jersey wineries. I would highly recommend these wines as gifts to fellow wine lovers as they are fantastic and impressive! We look toward to visiting again when the Spring comes to enjoy the beautiful property. Cheers! The inside was ver

I lived in Atco for 12 years and didn't realize what I had under my nose. This isn't your normal Jersey fruit wine. This is REAL wine the way its supposed to taste.Great place to relax during the summer for a picnic.I highly recommend the Europa wines as they compare to high priced French wines. Also, all their wines are made to age so they get better every year

Believe it or not, New Jersey has some great wineries and Amalthea is one of the best. My wife and I recently visited in late September and the place was buzzing with harvest activity. The cellar tour is fun and informative. The wines are superb, rivaling the best of California and Bordeaux. I enjoyed the 2009 Cabernet Franc, and bought several bottles. We also enjoyed the Europa wines which the owner Lou patterns after great Bordeaux wines. A great way to spend a couple hours, plan to visit a few other nearby wineries on the NJ Wine Trail.

My husband and I like wine. A lot. And we have visited several wineries in NJ that produce just okay wine. But Almathea is a step above. Their Cabernets and Pino Grigios are top notch, not just for NJ, but among anywhere. We went to a blind taste testing event here and were amazed when compared to French wines that Almathea's were superior in several cases. You will not be disappointed.

I was in the section of the Winery that was reserved for private wine and cheese parties. We were all gathered there for a fund-raising 'cause', and the event is held annually there. Service is excellent, including the fact that the wine is pressed and aged from their locally-grown vineyard. Nothing negative to say about it.
