I enjoyed it, but really there is no such thing as a "bottomless pit" I did expect it to be deeper than it was. Over all good though

The first explorers called it bottomless because they couldn't see the bottom at the time. You can see this 140 foot deep pit from the Big Room Tour.

It just wasn't very exciting...a hole...with a sign that tells you how deep it is. It's on the path so you might as well look in.

I agree, this is not the best part. But it is the part that makes the experience complete & should not be taken for granted.Obviously, you are not going to visit Carlsbad Caverns every day.So I recommend to make it a part of your visit, especially if it is your first visit to Carlsbad Caverns.

In a huge underground cavern full of wonders and interesting formations, this 'bottomless' pit just isn't all that exciting, especially since with powerful flashlights the bottom is all too visible. It's a cool stop on the tour, but not the best part of it!

It's amazing when I saw this pit. I was wondering why they didn't allow visitors the explore the bottom of the cavern.

By the time you get there it's just another dark cavern and not actually bottomless. The early discoverers just didn't have lights enabling them to see the bottom. lol

Fun to see, but not as bottomless as one would expect. My poor kiddo walked by it several times before seeing the sign and realizing he was already there.

The "bottomless" pit is just 140 feet deep. It is a big hole that you can't see the bottom. It is a good place to leave the screaming kidsthough.

A bottomless pit in name only, it was still pretty interesting to stare into and wonder about. The history of it presented by the audio tour provided some interesting background as well.

The stop at the "Bottomless Pit" is just a part of the self-guided tour of The Big Room at Carlsbad. There's no reason for it to have its own heading. And of course people would be dissapointed if they're expecting the pit to be a Big Moment on the Carlsbad tour. It's not bottomless of course / it's about 150 ft deep / and it's not that impressive. However the extra bit of walking through the Big Room IS worth the extra time that you'll have to walk through the cavern. Afterall, you've travelled this far to see Carlsbad / why not see a bit more of it?

On the way to the Big Room in the caverns, it's easy to stop by the Bottomless Pit, although it does not look like much from the surface as a dark hole in the ground. Still, it's awesome just to be in the caverns and learn about the different structures, formations, and even this Bottomless Pit, here of all places.

We walked all the way to this and were disappointed. You can't see much at all. Not worth the walk if you're in a hurry.

We spent the at least 6 hours in the different caves and had the best time! My kids will remember this trip forever:) If you have never visited Carlsbad Caverns, I highly recommend it!

Nothing special about this stop on the trail leading around the big room of the cavern.
