vertu fine art gallery

Really enjoyed this gallery. Vertu has excellent local artists with a wide range of art capabilities. I went around the gallery three times enjoying different artists each time. Gallery owner was friendly, funny and a wealth of information. Beautiful building as well.

I had a few hours to kill in Socorro, so wandered about on foot. I had no idea there was an art gallery in town, much less one so inviting and approachable. The art strongly reflects the influence of New Mexico's natural beauty on the artists. Not being from New Mexico myself, I see the landscapes with new eyes, and many of the paintings depicted the same things I found beautiful about the region. The gallery itself is laid out in a series of just-right rooms that make browsing a delight. I had a hard time narrowing down my choices for purchase--will just have to come back soon!

... is also the friendliest. From local to internationally collected artists, Vertu has a collection to rival that of any gallery in Santa Fe, but at prices that reflect Socorro budgets. The building is just off the historic plaza, and has been beautifully restored - fans of SW architecture will appreciate the tiniest details. The artists are critically chosen by the owner, an exceptionally accomplished watercolorist, and her husband/partner. Paintings, textiles, sculpture, jewelry, photography - every time we visit there's something new to covet. So much of the original work is reproduced in blank cards that it's our favorite place to go for even small gifts.
