There is not much to do in downtown Gallup but trading posts, but the Rex Museum is a definite stop. Located on the corner just past the entrance of downtown Gallup, it does not appear to be much. Inside much to see in this small museum is a concentrated exhibit of the mining history and many other interesting objects. Virgil, the volunteer of the day, wasvery helpful and let us know where to go and what to see. I could not find the Navajo Code Talkers museum without his help.

We got in between two school tours and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Learned more about the history of Gallup in 30 minutes than we could have imagined. The volunteer staff really know their city and their pride shows.

While walking along Historic Route 66 in Gallup, we came across this small museum. Since local museums can be a great source of the local history, we stopped in. It is very small, but full of pictures, artifacts and books. My husband saw items he had never seen before, a lot of old technology items, making it a very good place for him. We also learned how Gallup got its name - David Gallup was the paymaster and everyone "went to Gallup" on payday. Love those stories.

Il museo è carino, proprio perché contiene piccole cose vecchie, dai certificati di matrimonio, alle scarpe di vecchie signore. In ogni caso, uno spaccato di vita, che fa tenerezza.
