The fish hatchery is not big, but the fish are! The staff are very knowledgably and helpful throughout the tour. Make sure you bring some quarters to feed the fish!

I have always loved the small mountain community of Story, and the fish hatchery is just one of many reasons. Great place to visit as the staff is very engaging. Enjoy a lunch picnic in the trees and a hike up the story trail. Makes a for perfect day!!

Aside from the bright blue Wyoming skys, Story has only a few sights to see and one of them is the Hatchery. Little did I realize that the fish and game commission would really need to produce fish but... here it is in living color. It's quite interesting indeed.

This is a great place to take the young kids for a little adventure. It's small but they have a feeding pond where you buy fish food for a quarter. My preschooler loved it! The visitor's center has a few cool exhibits and you can see the fish spawning process. It's all free except the fish food. We like to go feed the fish the have a picnic at the nearby park.

Great fun and informative for people of all ages! A trip to the Story Fish Hatchery is a great way to spend an afternoon!

This is a trout hatchery run by the State of WY. Very educational, beautiful scenery and walking trails. A good way to spend a few hrs with kids or just adults

Correction to my previous post. The Lake Trout Pond area where the fish may be fed is open 8am to 4:30pm. Pond gate closes promptly at 4:30pm. Sorry for the confusion.

The process of growing "stocker" fish is an amazing process to see. And the kids will love it.

Story hatchery has recently been upgraded to better meet the needs of the five brood stocks of fish housed there and to address whirling disease issues. While the new building is closed to the public as per the state fire marshall, there is still much to see. New informational signs have been created and the visitor center is scheduled to reopen with an all new design in winter of 2011.Please remember that bread is NOT allowed to be fed, feed only food from the feed machines (takes quarters, there is no change machine) and feed only to the fish in the lake trout pond as all the other fish are too small for that size food. Because the hatchery is whirling disease suspect, please do not allow children to wade or put their feet into the water as you may carry the disease to other waters. Whirling disease does not harm humans.Hours are 8am-5pm every day of the year. Lake trout pond is open 8am-5pm. Gate closes promptly at 5pm so please allow plenty of time beforehand to see everything. No admission fee but bring quarters for feed machines if desired.

We really enjoyed going to the Fish Hatchery. Usually it is quite deserted, so you have the place to yourself. During the summer a great way to cool off is to travel to Story and feed the fish. Our kids loved it. They got to feed the fish which was a big hit.The site has a great set of posters to walk you through the fish life cycle. It is a great nature stop. And my kids at an early age (under 10) enjoyed trying to touch the fish as they tossed the food. Great fun for the whole family. Low key and relaxing. And educational.
