Fabulous opportunities for photography and wildlife viewing. Watch out for tractor trailers zipping up and down the road and crawling up your butt. Lots of pullouts to stop and shoot pix.

This was a very nice drive, not a lot of traffic road was maintained. Scenery got boring after a while.

This was a beautiful drive heading north toward Jackson. The mountains were excellent backdrops for the green hills and winding road - yet I was able to maintain speed as the turns were never quite that tight. A gorgeous drive.

From SLC, we took 189 up to Pinedale and 191 back through Rock Springs. From the other reviews posted, I had expected Teton-like mountains filled with pine trees. The reality is gently rolling hills of sagebrush highlighted by the occasional cow, horse, or pronghorn. There are mountains...in the far, far distance. The speed limit is absurdly low for this highway: just 65 mph in the boonies while it's 75 mph near the populous Rock Springs!

US 191 from Rock Springs to Hoback Jct is a beautiful drive. You can continue to Jackson from here or head west. It is posted at 65 MPH with some towns to slow down in. The scenery is awesome and you should afford yourself time to pull off and take pictures. . . It is a well traveled road with big trucks, farmers, gas field workers, travel trailers and tourist. Don't be fooled, it is also traveled by patrol cars. If you pay attention there is lots of wildlife to see also. The road it's self is smooth, but there are some pay attention curves. There is many miles without houses or restrooms so be prepared. A roll of toilet paper is always in our trunk for nature calls.

Much of this was in the dark, but the majority that wasn't was scenic and you could go the 65mph speed limit pretty easily. I was surprised about both.

We saw different wildlife along the way & the drive was quite scenic. We travelled to Jackson, the Tetons & to Yellowstone by taking this route and enjoyed the drive.

This is an easy scenic route with several passing lanes on the stretch. The Wind River Mountains are expansive and begin to build up around Farson. Wide open vast spaces where you can see occasianal wild horses and numerous Antelope roam

Road is high in traffic due to the oil and gas. Roads do need some improvement. The nice thing is this road has many passing lanes.

Have travelled this road a number of times and thought it was quite pretty ........... That was until I drove the 189 and I80 to SLC yesterday.mthe views and landscape just keeps on changing and I was literally the only car driving North yesterday - take the longer route and try the 189 would be my advice if you have travelled this one already.Rob

Very well maintained and the best trip from Pinedale to Jackson.

It was a day trip from Rock Springs to Pinedale. Beautiful!!!!!! The snow capped mountains rose majestically as we travelled north. =) We went to Soda Lake and Fremont Lake and the snow capped mountains at the end of each lake just took our breaths away.... =)

US 191 from Rock Springs to Pinedale is well maintained... and very well patrolled. You will pass State Troopers on this route, almost guaranteed. This road is also one of the most deadly in the state with heavy trucks, gas field workers, travel trailers and various wild animals crossing frequently. The towns of Eden, Farson and Boulder are quaint and offer some fun attractions like a great merry-go-round, a fun ice cream shop, and some fun old stores. Pinedale is a great little town with some fun shops and cool restaurants. From Pinedale to Jackson, the drive is beautiful. Especially in the fall and late summer when the air is crisp, skies are blue, the Wind River Mountains (and Gros Ventres) are gorgeous, and you are likely to see many animals. Wyoming DOT is building fences to help keep the critters off the road, but drivers be aware. Again, this area is well patrolled, so speeding is at your own risk!Use extreme caution when traveling during the winter months, as areas of this drive can be wind blown, shaded and extremely slick.

Without a doubt, US 191 between Jackson and Pinedale, Wyoming is one of the most beautiful and picturesque drives in the country. Complete with mountains, plains, forests, rivers, wildlife and clear blue skies, this stretch of highway is clearly one of the best of the best. But, it also has a dark side of which travelers should be made aware. Us 191 near Pinedale, WY is a speed trap of the worst kind. A renegade cop is pulling people over and arresting them on trumped up charges and is being given a free pass by the local judges. This Wyoming Highway Patrol Trooper is also very disrespectful and unprofessional. His unethical and illegal behavior gives all law enforcement agencies a bad rap and is certainly part of the reason the majority of Americans neither trust nor respect police officers. Forewarned is forearmed.
