Kind ladies work at this little store. They take a great deal of pride in their jobs. It is geared to the economy in Kemmerer. Clean, well lit, It is on one of the corners of the Kemmerer triangle. The town is greatly appreciative that they stay open.

The travel guides made it sound an absolute must, so we diverted. Penney's seemed all boarded up with just one area that appeared functional so we peered in but no more. There rest of the place....well least said. Don't go out of your way.

Downtown Kemmerer is old and quaint. The JC Penney mother store was a wonderful find. The hanging flower baskets are beautiful.

This is an operating store, though much smaller than a typical JC Penney. The salesclerk was very friendly and helpful, and when she heard we were from out of town, she gave us literature on the history of the store. The museum is located on the same street as the store It is James Cash Penney's house from when he lived in Kemmerer. The house is a tiny cottage and restored to be historically accurate. The woman working in the house was also very friendly and knowledgeable. If you are in the area, you can easily stop and see both the store and museum in half an hour or less.

Loved the outside grates - chicken/rooster and a JCP logo from the past. The clothes inside weren't much, but the historical factor was cool. The old fashioned balcony design is a personal favorite.

We saw it and thought of the old in days. It was very cool place. The town was amazing and beautiful too..

My wife and I were staying overnight in Kemmerer, Wyoming and had heard that the original 1902 J C Penney store was here so we stopped to take a look. It has the look of an older store, but except for some historical interest there is nothing to detour your trip.

We called by to see this as it was almost en route - it didn't appear to be open (or even look like it had been open this year). A shame, as it is part of American retail history.

If you're into retailing history or just curious and have a bit of time this store is worth a brief visit. It is the original store (the second, after the first burnt) and is still retailing. I wouldn't travel out of my way to see it.

This was a lot of fun to see the original store , a number of original fittings on shelves . My wife and Grandkids bought several items of clothing and she was impressed with the good prices. The staff (two of them ) were very congenial and helpful , I will go back again with other Grandkids in the future. Next time on a weekday or Saturday to be able to see the original house/museum.All in all well worth a stop.

Reminded me of small town department stores when I was a kid. All the merchandise is current, but the setting is definitely out of the past. Lots of memorabilia on the walls as well. Staff was a lot of fun!

I was totally take back in time when Penney's had there stand-alone facilities. It was pretty cool to see this store. They are open for business too.

I was doing a job outside of Kemmerer, Wyoming and one of the locals had mentions if we had seen the First JC Penney store at first I did not readily care about it. But there is readily not much to see there, so what the heck,it turn out to be very interesting and enjoyable glad I stop there.

It brought back memories of my hometown JCPenney store when I was young. We were looking for swimsuits which they do not carry, but very helpful staff sent us to another store in town.
