My wife and I were looking for a local wine tasting but wanted something off the downtown square. We were greeted by the owners dog when entering and then the actual owner as well. Very friendly and enjoyed the wines. Atmosphere was lacking...felt a little decor could go along ways. Typical tasting have lite crackers to clean palate between tastings but not here.Worth the short trip from town!

Owners and staff are super friendly and knowledgable. The winery is 13 years old and care has been taken to create a fantastic Rustic Texas environment. Indoor and outdoor setting is very comfy and our group enjoyed all 5 of the wines that we tasted. We purchased two bottles. We will be back.

Small winery, quaint tasting room. We visited on a Thursday afternoon and enjoyed being catered to and getting some in depth descriptions of the wines and history of the winery. Our hostess was very knowledgeable. We wound up purchasing a couple of bottles to consume in our hotel room over the weekend.

On a recent girls' weekend, friends & I visited this small winery. We got five tastings for $5 each. They allow you to choose 5 of the about 7 or more wines they have to offer. She gave us each a listing of the wines with a brief description of each. There's even an area on the paper to make notes. However, the glasses were not rinse after each sampling. The young woman that waited on us gave us good service during the sampling and is very knowledgable, but when others came, she forgot about us. Two of my friends were going to purchase some wine, but she didn't return to the table to ask us if there was anything further she could do for us. Even when we left, we weren't told goodbye or thank you for visiting. I understand they have a First Friday event where you can bring potluck and enjoy live music. I suggest calling ahead for more information on this and to double check hours etc.

We missed the Friday night music, so stopped in on Saturday. Like other folks have said, it's out in the country in a barn, but air conditioned and comfortable. The friendly staff made the wine tasting fun and unhurried, and we ended up buying a few bottles to take home. Winemaker Tiberius even signed our bottles. Yes, we had a designated driver! :)

Had we gone on a Friday night with the live entertainment and picnicking, likely would have rated 5 stars. Owner converted a horse barn into a comfortable wine tasting facility. A very knowledgeable gal set up a sampler of 5 wines, complete with written description of each wine and its best pairings. Thoroughly worth a visit.......

I shouldn't have been shocked this place was in a giant barn/shed given how far out of the city it is, but I was. Still, it was air conditioned and the wine was good. We walked right in on a hot Saturday afternoon and were immediately greeted and given the scoop. $5 to taste 5 wines. There were several tables to sit at where we could have been taken care of but I chose the bar. The owner/designer came out and gave us his story and described how the name came about (definitely cute). I must admit, I was most taken with their adorable dog, Cellar who was very well behaved. All in all we got a great experience getting a one on one with everyone and getting to ask as many questions as we needed.Everyone says the wines were dry but they weren't as chalky as I expect other Texas wines to be. We ended up leaving with our own bottles(especially of the port!). Before we left we took a quick(and I stress quick because the lot is small) walk around the grounds checking out the grape crop. I wish we could go during one of their events.

We were surprised at how much we enjoyed all of the wines since we don't typically like dryer wines. The atmosphere was great - very relaxing, we weren't rushed, and there were few people there so it was quiet and intimate. I regret that we didn't attend during their Friday night events, but it was still well worth the trip! We recommend this to everyone we know visiting the area!

We enjoyed our visit to the Barking Rocks Winery. We visited with the vintner, Tiberius and his wife and their charming dog, Cellar. The tasting room is located on beautiful grounds and is very peaceful. The wines that we tried were very tasty and we came away with two bottles. The tasting room has limited hours, but we recommend a stop here. It's charming, as are the owners.

We called yesterday upon arriving later in the day into Granbury and learned that they would be closing in ten minutes. The winemaker, Tiberia, overheard and invited us to still come on out. First of all, he is one of the nicest people we've met in our travels, and the wine he makes is fabulous! We tasted a couple whites, then a rose, followed by some specialty reds. We wound up leaving with 6 bottles total. We can't wait to return! Don't skip this place!

My girlfriend and I were in Granbury for a fundraiser for a fallen police officer. When we planned attending the fundraiser, I made sure we had time to visit Barking Rocks Winery as part of my quest to tour each and every winery in Texas. The winery is in the country outside of Granbury and upon entering the vineyards it felt like we were driving up to a winery that Willie Nelson would frequent. The vineyard looked amazing with grape clusters maturing on hearty vines. The two barns feel like a slice of Texas from one hundred years ago. One barn is for production, and the other barn is the tasting room. Upon entering the tasting room, we were greeted by the winemaker, Lawrence Tiberia who was wearing a smile as big as Texas. Lawrence is the perfect host. He seated us and told us about the history of Barking Rocks. You could tell he loves his job, and he loves making Texas wine from Texas grapes. We started our tasting with the 2010 Fizz n' Rose, an off dry sparkling wine that had an aroma of cranberries, leather and smoke. The mouth feel was like that of champagne. The flavors refreshing unlike any other sparkling wine I had ever tasted. Wow! This is definately one to stock up on for your cellar. We followed with the 2007 Merlot, a dry red, that had an aroma of berries and pepper. The flavors of berries, pepper, and coffee were silky smooth. This is the perfect Merlot for a blue cheese topped steak. The 2006/2007 Zinfandel had an amazing nose. The flavors of bing cherries, pepper, smoke, light oak, and chocolate charm the pallette. Wow! Another fine wine to stock up on for the cellar. The 2007 Casena is a red blend with an amazing chocolate nose. Complex flavors of light to medium oak, sweet tobacco, cherries and plums tantalize your senses. The 2010 Orange Muscat will make you smile even if you are not a sweet wine drinker. The orange marmalade nose takes you by surprise. The toasted orange flavor with a light sweetness is followed by a hint of melon. This Orange Muscat is unique and stands in a class of its own. We ended our tasting with a Fragaria, which is an after dinner wine made from strawberries. A light strawberry nose opens your senses. It is sweet, but not syrupy. Light and fragrant. This is definately a wine to enjoy at the end of a hot Texas summer day. The tasting room is filled with Texas art and great books about Texas wine and wineries are on a table for perusing. Antiques set the mood and great music calms the day. What more could you ask for? Lawrence is doing some amazing things with wines that will truly set Texas apart from the rest of the wine industry. You must visit Barking Rocks and meet Lawrence. It will be what you remember best and like most on your outing to Granbury.

From the moment we pulled up to be greeted by the resident dog, to chatting with the owner, till when we left with a couple bottles and some wineglasses later... this was a very memorable and wonderful experience. We sat outside in the sun and enjoyed our wines..... white for me and a tasting of reds (and a bottle purchase for him). Really enjoyed our time here and will visit again if I am in the area! Highly recommend you stop by and visit! Also you can take in your own cheese and crackers or snacks!

This is a great place to visit if you're in the Granbury area. Tiberia and Sissy are wonderful people. The wine is very good. They have live music some nights. You can even rent the place out for special events.
