Go first thing in the morning - the site "opens" at 5 am (there is no gate or attendant but there is an overnight curfew). The trails around the stone structure at the top have a better view than the structure does. It's amazing to be up above everything, hearing the manmade noises from boats and cars below but also the birds and the wind around you. Don't miss the view of the city skyline to the left (as you're facing the lake), you can't see it when you first emerge at the top but there are trails to the left that will reveal it. Just the drive through the beautiful neighborhoods to get here makes it worth going - reminded me a lot of Mulholland Drive in LA.

okay place to hike but sadly those that have gone before us have NO respect for the beauty and its surrounding. There was trash all over the place.

Quick 100 step walk in hilly areas of Austin out of the cities. You should go, it has a beautiful view, absolutely amazing view.

Moving from the mountainous West Coast to the Great Plains has been challenging, but whenever I visit Austin I take advantage of the views from Mount Bonnell to get my "mountain" fix. The views give me a reprise from living in a region that is flatter than a pancake. The drive to up tho this beautiful location is easy with plentiful parking. Once you park the "few" steps to walk up are not to difficult (unless it is 100 degrees with a high heat index). Make sure to bring some water as you will be sweating heavily if you make the trek in the summer. At the top there are plentiful photo ops with views of downtown, Lake Travis, and the rest of Hill Country. Mount Bonnell is a must stop for a visitor to Austin.

If you're bored in Austin, this makes for a good side trip of short duration. Easy parking and stone steps lead to a small area overlooking the Colorado River (not a lake) from one side and Austin skyline from the other. The area is small and may get crowded in the summer. A couple of paths start downhill and parallel the river. Nice place to rest and take in some sun, but that's about it!

This was our first stop in Austin, we wanted to see the city as a whole. This view provided us that. We were able to see almost every angle of the city. This was a stairway away and not a long walk at all. It was chilly the day we visited and found ourselves alone, which was rather majestic.

The park is small, but the several great views over downtown, Lake Austin, and the beginning of Hill Country are worth the short, free hike up the 100 steps. (Yes, there's a full stairway and railing.)The people-watching at this popular spot is also pretty neat - tourists and locals alike stop by.The area along the ridge is especially popular for views of eclipses and other events, and on such occasions, it's a great place to see some of Austin's trademark happy-weird.

If you're looking for a long hike, don't come here. Or do, and then hike somewhere else. Mount Bonnell gives a beautiful view of the lake and downtown Austin. If you want to come here to take pictures, I'd try to go during the week as it gets pretty busy and your views might be blocked. I've been here twice, but I think unless I'm trying to impress a visitor, I might not go back too often.

The view from top is great. You can see the river and the multi-million dollar mansions on either side of the river. A little patience , you will be able to get parking. Bring your own snack and drink, ENJOY.Best seen before sunset and till after twilight

For a scenic overlook, this is a one-time, quick-look, worthy stop but nothing more. Practically anyone should be able to climb the stairs leading to the top and short dirt paths to either side of the overlook. It is not a true "hike" in any sense of the word, but unfortunately people in Austin don't really know what a true hike is. I love Austin and the people, but hiking here is and at Mt. Bonnell is just plain disappointing.

Did this hike with my wife after driving in from Dallas. Surprised by how short a walk it is from the roadside parking. If you are looking to get your heart-rate going, I suggest spending an hour walking around the adjacent residential streets (those houses are insane!) Since it is such an easy walk up to the top, it can get very crowded pretty much any time of the day.

Beautiful views & gorgeous scenery. Definitely worth the experience. Plenty of steps, but it makes for good exercise.

Very nice spot to see the area. Only issue was I felt like my car was protruding into the lane of traffic.

Go when the weather is nice. Climbing the stairs to the top does take some moderate effort - doing it on a really hot day can make it a chore. But once you're there, the view is terrific! It really lets you see what Austin is all about and why so many people love it.
