It's a great place for hiking but the trail heads and maps were confusing. Still amazing once we figured it out. Looks like great camping for those who like that.

We love visiting Davis Mountains State Park! This is the best park in the state and the prettiest part of Texas! Our favorite hike is up the old CCC road to the lookout, and then over into the Fort Davis National Historic site and all around the cliffs behind the Fort.The brand new bird watching blind (along the main park road) has turned out quite nice! (Thanks to all those who planned and built it!) The feeders are kept full and we saw many different and colorful species of birds there, even in the winter. There is another blind at the Interpretive Center, and the bird watching is excellent there, as well.Keep on the lookout and you may also see javelinas, raccoons, rabbits, owls, deer, and (non-native) aoudad sheep.All of the park employees and volunteers are very helpful.We like that there is almost no cell phone service in the park! It is more peaceful that way!

Wildlife, great camping spots. Lots of places to hike or ride bikes. Breath of fresh air! Park staff were very helpful and nice.

We loved our first visit to this Texas State Park. It was quiet, clean facilities, and the staff was helpful. Tara did a great job with a Javalina program. The Lodge & Restaurant were closed for cleaning/refurb so we will go back for another visit. The hiking trails were great - some with altitude, lovely views!

We camped here in a travel trailer for four nights. A lot of pull through sites are very nice with hookups and we especially appreciated the cable hookup so we could watch the college football championship game. Weather wasn't great for hiking, but we enjoyed the hiking trails anyway... just couldn't see a lot with the fog. Skyline drive was beautiful and as another reviewer mentioned the only place in the park where you could get phone service. The lodge has a restaurant which is convenient if you don't feel like cooking at your campsite. Bathrooms were clean and heated. WiFi available at certain locations in the park.

Unusual rock formations, almost 10 miles of hiking trails through various parts of the park, interesting wildlife (javelinas), good place for camping

Camp sites are nicely spaced, most with good cover. Plan on no cell or data signal except on Skyline Trail and Road and high points in park. Park staff very friendly and helpful in all areas. Indian Lodge was beautiful and would be well worth the money to stay in! Trails are easily navigated, but can be strenuous on the ascents, but are well worth the work for the great views!Bird blinds are AWESOME! If your a birder, don't miss this park as you'll see birds you would never see in the rest of Texas!

The park was awesome, brilliant hikes with spectacular views. Camping was fun. Facilities at the park were great. We had a very relaxing vacation, will definitely return.

Majestic, rugged beauty. Great hiking and modern conveniences like wifi. Black Bear restaurant at Indian Lodge is very good if you're tired of roughing it.

This state park has cool weather even during the blast furnace of a West Texas summer. It is high in the Davis Mountains making it one of the most pleasant places to stay in the hot Texas summer. There are miles of great walking trails and you can walk directly to Ft Davis National Historic Monument. We will be coming back.

We just returned from four nights camping at this park, now my favorite in Texas after Enchanted Rock. With kids there is so much to keep you busy, between great hikes, beautiful surroundings, new interpretive center and bird blinds, Fort Davis, McDonald Observatory, and Marfa also not far away. Be prepared for wildlife; mountain lions possible, deer an javalina inevitable.

I stopped here for an afternoon hike and it was well worth it. The rangers were very friendly and helpful, identifying the best trails given the amount of time I had. The hike itself was breathtaking, with sweeping views of the mountains and the rest of the park. All the roads and trails I used were noticeably well-maintained. If you like birds, be sure to stop by the birdwatching sanctuary along the main road, as there are a variety of feeders and excellent identification panels to help identify the large number of birds that stop to eat there.

We stay in hotels for travel for work - so I branched out because not a lot of choices - well, do NOT skip the state parks. This place is very nice! At end of road, hike around, rooms actually quite nice (fireplaces, but not sure if can use always) The sunrise from window was crazy. Big room. We had corner up in back - was perfect. You cannot reserve, but could ask. The pool was great!. Restaurant ok, nice staff, but too few day we were there - however - there were only 4 couple in whole place maybe.

Tara, who runs the park's Interpretive Center, led us on a beautiful, relatively short, hike - full of beautiful vistas and mild elevation changes.She is so full of enthusiasm and knowledge about the area that a participant can't help but become more interested than they thought they were about its history, geography, geology and subtle rules of nature.Go visit! You'll be glad you did.(ps: Throw in a scheduled trip to McDonald Observatory while you're there. If not camping, try out Indian Lodge.)
