Spent a few hours here sampling their brews. The indoor area is small but comfortable; bartender was nice and attentive. They also have an outdoor area with cornhole and other games if you're interested. The beer was pretty good - we got a flight of all 10, which was reasonable at $8 if I remember correctly. No food on site, so eat before you go.

We stopped here while visiting Scottsville. They had a nice outdoor area in the back with tables, tents and benches. We did a sampler tray of 6 different brews. At the time it was early afternoon so we were the only people there. Evenings seem to be a more popular time since they also offer entertainment some nights.

We appreciate your review and definitely want to take into account where you felt we were lacking - while we're happy to hear your mate enjoyed the beers we're sorry you didn't - what would you have liked to seen in our beer styles? More importantly, we definitely want to work on stepping up the tasting room issues you mentioned. We have recently gone a change in which the people who were holding ownership/management of the business had to be removed for mismanagement reasons. We are happy to announce though that new management is underway and we will work hard to make sure your concerns/issues are addressed. It may take us a little bit of time to work through some of the things previous management were not addressing over a period of time, but please know that we are listening to what our customers have to say and are going to do the best we can to get them addressed quickly - it matters a great deal to us how you feel about your experience! Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us and we do hope you will give us another shot in the future!

Came here on leave from the Marine Corps with my wife and in laws. Her mother moved to Scottsville about 2 months ago at this point. I drove by twice didn't notice it. My wife pointed it out said she heard it was a great place to visit. Boy was she right! Don't let this micro brew through you it's great!! I have been to breweries form Utica NY to Oceanside a city in San Diego county California. Both sides of the US and found a great brewery on both sides but this one stands out. Besides that, why I'm saying this is... honestly an amazing brewery to visit. Small yes but who cares it has an amazing feel to the place. Very inviting great customer service. I honestly can't say anything bad about this place. I had a short haired amazingly joyful woman as my bartender wish I caught her name to put on the post. Very straight forward she was. A joy to have, I did a sampler of six beers she gave me. She had an idea of what I wanted to get just by talking to me she nailed it. All of the beers I had I have to say I would get again. Wish I had a place like this around me. "Go for the Green Eyed Lady"

Fantastic Belgian and German inspired brews served in a small, but warm and welcoming tasting room. Friendly staff and locals make this experience a real treat for the beer enthusiast.

I have been to this brewery a couple of times, and both trips have been awesome. As the title says, the porter is awesome. I am a picky porter drinker, so for me to say this is rare. Both times we ordered food from a variety of places and had it delivered to the brewery to enjoy with our beers. Once was a delicious pizza and the other time burgers. Kind of nice to have a variety of food to choose from! :) The brewery is awesome for setting that up.I look forward to returning again.

The is a great place to try different beer styles. They have 9 beers that you can taste. There are various options including a pick of 6 beers of 3-4oz pours for $8. You can also get a 5 oz pour of most for $1 each. We had great fun trying the different types including some with exotic flavors that come through (pistachio, grapefruit etc). As a bonus, you can order take-out from 2 restaurants in town and eat while you taste. The tasting room is small so be aware that it might be crowded at times. We were there on a Sunday afternoon and had no problem. The bar tender was very friendly and knowledgeable about their products. We even got great advice on picking a local hike location from the other patrons. This brewery is a rare find. Don't tell anyone!

Have been wanting to check this place out for many months as I love trying out all the breweries in the area. JRB is very tiny for tasting. The indoor area could probably fit 15-20 before it begins to feel really congested. During the warmer months, i understand they have an outdoor area behind the brewery where they will have live music and other events on the weekend. To see what they offered, I opted for a flight, which consisted of their 6 current offerings in 2.5oz tasting. Each one was distinctively unique. I really enjoyed their porter. great chocolate and coffee flavor. The guys that provided me the flight gave a great description of each beer as well as background no how each was developed. Overall, JRB is a great spot for catch up with the locals, find out about this underappreciated town, and just have a great time with good people. They do serve food on site but you can order from Amicis (italian) and have it delivered. Will definitely be back this Spring/Summer!

I attended a benefit event for Fairhunt Farm at James River Brewing on Monday evening. Grit City Grass, a great bluegrass band performed in the cozy pub. I had a fabulous banana/bourbon ale. An excellent brew, not too sweet, a hint of banana, a touch of whiskey from the bourbon soaked wood chips used in the making. No kitchen however several local restaurants deliver to the brewery. The staff were lovely, the tunes lively, we all had a fine fine time.
