Our group of Anaheim Ducks fans was taking a bus from Washington to Norfolk to catch an Admirals hockey game, and our driver stopped here so we could use the restrooms and stretch our legs.Located on Interstate 64 (US Route 33) East at mile marker 213, the New Kent Rest Area and Visitor Center is definitely the nicest rest area I've ever visited.Opened in 2003 to replace an older rest center built in 1976, this rest area features a large, modern building with spacious, clean restrooms. There are half a dozen vending machines that sell snacks as well as hot and cold drinks, and at least some of them accept Apple Pay. The visitor center has lots of pamphlets available with information about attractions in the area. There's even a Virginia State Police office here.Unfortunately, T-Mobile coverage wasn't that good in the area, and although you'll see a Wi-Fi network on your phone, it isn't available to the public.Outside, there's room for probably about 250 vehicles, including larger spaces for RVs, buses, and trucks, an area for children to play, an area for pets, and even a picnic area with grills.
