I love taking out of town guests on White's Ferry. It is such a cool way to cross the river and most of my family from Colorado haven't been on anything like it. We cross from Leesburg to Poolsville usually to pick fruit or get fresh produce at the farmers markets nearby. It is also a great way to get to the awesome haunted forest in October. It is cash only so make sure to bring some bills!

It's cash only, but such a fun way to cross the river! Such a credit to our area that this service is maintained and we have an opportunity to not drive for a short while.

Step back in time; walk, ride (moto or bicycle), drive onto this brief and enjoyable ferry ride across the Potomac. Perfect to take a photo and drops you in countryside either in MD or VA - perfect idea for a weekend jaunt. Picnic facilities on the MD side and a little store to get a drink or ? Enjoy this delightful slice of history.

I visit Whites Ferry twice a month, its only down the road, and takes 30 miles off my journey crossing from Leesburg VA into Whites Ferry and over to Gaithersburg. The General Jubal A. Early Ferry has been crossing this river since the 1860, it is REAL American history. Its $5 one way and $8 return, as long as you tip up before 11pm at night and of course it doesn't run when the river is frozen over. In the summer t see many people packing a picnic in the and canoe or rent boats at the shop and go wading in the water (which is crazy as they swim next to the Ferry crossing, but for the most part you could probably swim across the river faster than the 4 minute Ferry ride, but it beats the extra 10 mile journey to the point of Rocks and then heading back on yourself on Route 28.

My husband and I took the ferry back from a winery and had a great time. Friendly staff, quick and scenic trip and a great deal for the cost

Well worth the fare! it's a beautiful place for a five minute crossing! The fastest way from Leesburg to Gaithersburg! Check out the high water mark on the Building on the Maryland side.

Our hotel shuttle dropped us and our bikes off at the ferry - took the quick trip across, rode for a few hours and took the ferry back. A fun and unique trip across the Potomac!

We enjoyed crossing the river by ferry with our bikes. The ferry is very efficient and the location is very handy!

A return to yesteryear via a boat with a 5-7 minute trip across the Potomac to Poolesville. This ferry avoids the longer trip either south or north to cross a bridge and brings to life the days when boats were the primary form of transportation across the River. $5 fee for an enjoyable ride.

We were traveling between my brother's home in Poolesville, MD to cousins in Fall Church, VA and had our grand daughter with us. The GPS resisted going on the Ferry. We made it. Got right on and crossed to VA! Avoided the Beltway and wee able to stop at Costco in Leesburg before continuing south to Falls Church. Fun and efficient!

This was so cool! I never knew this was here until someone told us about it! We rode across just for the fun of it

A decrepit WW2 landing craft does not treasure make. Not even reliable commuter transportation for those who need to stay off the DC beltway.

It's one of those things that you just have to do. We were riding 105 miles on our bikes from Baltimore to Leesburg, VA and this seemed the best way to go. They load you quickly and it's a nice way to cross the Potomac and enjoy the view.

It seems that there are only three (3) ways over the Potomac River in Virginia. Historic White's Ferry is one of them. It is an entertaining ride across the river and there is not much of a wait. It does shut down in the evening and opens in the early morning for the commuters. On the other side from Leesburg there is a park for picnicking and a little store.
