My wife, eldest daughter and myself made this winery our second stop of three. This was my first visit, it was there second. First of all, they have a nice selection of wines to samples and our server was very knowledgeable of all being served. The tasting it's self is $8 a person and glasses of wine are in the same price range. We had brought along food to enjoy, which was welcome on the property, and since it was raining we set up in the main tasting area at a high top table and enjoyed the musician's who were performing. My wife and daughter each enjoyed a glass of '13 Rosewell and I had a glass of '13 Sweet Danielle. We definitely had an enjoyable time and would recommend to all.

Following in the footsteps of "King" Carter who introduced winemaking in the middle part of the 18th century to King George County, VA, a younger family member opened Philip Carter Winery here in 2008 in Hume, VA. Set on a plateau, it has a 360 degree view of the mountains and farms in the area. The tasting is done at a small bar or at tables that are strategically placed to enjoy the beautiful view. Although the winemaker has a goal of turning PC wines into world class, they are good but not spectacular. Both whites and reds are tasty but still lack the edge to be fully competitive. Packaged food (cheese, sausage, crackers) is available to make a meal with a glass or two or bring your own lunch and eat inside or out. Good staff overall.

The B & B we stayed at is associated with this winery so we had been enjoying the wine each afternoon prior to our tour. Our B & B host is a chef and was very knowledgeable about the wines, parings etc. We enjoyed the tour, the man who gave the tour was knowledgeable and friendly. Knew some background about the area. We had a picnic basket lunch and a bottle of wine, both nice.

We went on a wine tour connected with our bed and breakfast stay at the inn at vineyard crossings ..tour was ok our tour guide was not that great he knew the history which I could've looked up myself but didn't kno specific questions people had on tour..best part was we met some really great people on out tour ..tour consisted of a brief description of vineyard history and Their process of producing wine..then went inside and tried there different wines..my favorite was the dessert wine named after owners wife Danielle and the 1762 wine that u can only get if your a member ..we were given a basket w/cheese sausage blanket knife cutting bored after tour which was nice they have 4 different cheeses u can choose from ..Italian cheese was good..I would do again hopefully will get a better guide next time

I had previously been to Phillip Carter Winery for a traditional tour and tasting. That was a nice experience. If you want to do that look for a Groupon or similar deal. 1/24/2015 was the third annual Blessing of the Vine ceremony hosted by Phillip Carter Winery. 11 local wineries participated. It is fashioned on an ancient ceremony that originated in Burgundy, France. This was a unique experience. A bag piper in full regalia walked from the top of the hill to the tasting room playing a beautiful song that drifted across the chilly hillside. There was then a procession of the Keepers of the Vine, the winery owners and us, the lucky spectators to the vineyard where a pastor offered a prayer. There was a short ceremony then we went back to the tasting room past the ceremonial burning of the vine clippings and in to the tasting room. Guests could taste wines from the 11 wineries. A casual lunch of salad, baked beans and roasted pork was served. $49.95 included two tastings, lunch and the ceremony. Music was provided by a very talented country singer. Sorry I can't remember his name. He is very talented. Well worth the price. Bread rolls would have been a nice addition to the menu. It was a sparkling, clear day which was the perfect backdrop to a wonderful day. The Phillip Carter wines are good to very good. Steer clear of Winding Road Cab. None of our group could drink it :( Some of the servers didn't know the wines at all. Put this event on your calendar. We can hardly wait for next year.

Visited on a very cold day in November. Lovely wine tasting! We all enjoyed our brief visit. I would encourage you to visit this winery if you are in the area.

The hostess was great and very friendly the location and scenery was awesome perfect place to relax have a place to hang out with friends and family

We visited back in August, 2014 and had a good experience with the person doing the tasting and the wines were decent. Returned with friends for a tasting on Sunday, November 2. Terrible experience! The young man doing the tasting obviously was not interested in his work. He dumped the wine in the glasses and rattled off the descriptions rapidly so it was nearly impossible to follow him. In addition, the wines were barely mediocre. The tasting area also has several tables near the tasting bar where people congregated so it was very loud. Not planning to go back.

We were there two years ago and thought the wines wer good, and enjoyed the music and layout on a Sunday afternoon. this year, the wines were a disappointment, and couldn't even hear the guitar player while tasting! Seems a simple solution to connect the music (at a low volume) in the tasting room. There is a lot of competition for our Sunday attention, you need to step it up!

Good wine in a small winery and vineyard. They have seating inside and out. Very pleasant staff. They did not rush us out although we arrived close to the closing time.

Wine tasting at this lovely winery should be on everyone's list for the fall. The mountain scenery coupled with award-winning local wines will provide a day of entertainment. On the way from the winery, stop at one of the local orchards to pick apples or for your designated driver, purchase some local cider. Make reservations early and consider joining their wine club for discounts and limited bottling vintages. I almost hate to give this recommendation, because I don't want to compete with all of the D.C., metro area for space at Philip Carter's events, but it's a great find in the wine-producing area of Virginia.

Brought our dog along and did an outdoor tasting; we found the Governor Fauqiuer white to be quite tasty and had a glass enjoying the scenery in their outdoor lounge area which has beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and of the vineyard itself. They area bit off the beaten path which makes for an incredibly peaceful experience.

One of my favorite wineries ...I am a member. Enjoy a glass after a tasting EVERY day of the year! And get in a game of corn hole.

Nice wines (especially reds) and a friendly staff. The tasting room is a modern large, open space with lots of windows overlooking the vineyards.

We had a opportunity to visit with Jeremy, the winemaker at Philip Carter and found this young man to be very knowledgeable and passionate about his craft! Our first visit was two years ago and we were impressed with how the quality has improved since then. They have a very good port style dessert wine. I hesitate to recommend a particular wine because everyone's palates are so different when it comes to wine. The winery has some fun things going on if you are local to the area. I would definitely give this one a try if you are up for a pleasant tasting experience.
