The wines will surprise you at this small winery which might be short on frills but pours some noteworthy wines, the quality of which you'll fine very good and not just good for a Virginia wine but good period.

We stopped in on a Friday afternoon when there was no other customers there. The younger girl working really didn't seem interested in serving us. She was yawning the entire time and walked away rather than talk in between pours. When she poured one wine, she simply poured it and walked off without even saying what the wine was or explaining anything about it. Something we've never experienced anywhere else! The wines also had an odd taste to them. Perhaps it was the first one having such a horribly sharp flavor that put a bad taste in our mouths for the rest? Not sure, but we literally spent less than 10 minutes getting our tasting, paying and leaving. Not an enjoyable visit at all.

We did a tasting and the wine was pretty good. Not a good place if you're into a more luxury experience though.

We had a great tasting experience with a knowledgeable and friendly host. We purchased the viogner and a cab franc which were both delicious. Loved the information about growing and preparation.

Quaint vineyard. Had a wonderful afternoon sitting out on the deck with a glass of wine and picnic we brought with us. Tasting free when you buy a bottle. A hidden gem in the area.

Fantastic winery in Chester Gap. Knowledgeable staff, beautiful views from the deck outside. Bring friends, sit at a picnic table and enjoy the wine.

Been all the area and it's wineries and never spotted this one. A small family winery with a quaint tasting building next to the house and FANTASTIC views. Tasted five wines for $7 which was rebated when I bought a bottle of with to sit outside and relax. The young girl serving was very nice, friendly and informative. I recommend stopping by for a tasting. Would be great to do before going to another larger winery where you plan on staying a whee and a picnic.

This is an absolutely beautiful vineyard with amazing views and excellent wine. Definitely worth the trip. Gorgeous German shepherds patrol the vineyards.

Our 73rd Virginia winery took us to Chester Gap. It's a small winery with a LARGE view. We would love to see it at the foliage peak but we missed it by a couple weeks. The tasting room is intimate and the wine server was one of the best we've had. Buy a bottle and get a free tasting. The winemaker is an artist.

We learned of Chester Gap Cellars during a recent stay at the Hopkins Ordinary in Sperryville, VA. The proprietor brought us a glass of their Cuvee Manseng. We are not usually sweet wine seekers, but this glass prompted us to find the vineyard from which it originated. It was easily accessable out of Front Royal, VA, not far off the route from our home in West Virginia and Washington, D.C. The view along the gravel road by the rows of grapes is stuning. We enjoyed sampling a variety of whte and red wines. We did not have difficulty selecting half a dozen bottles to take home... including our own Cuvee Manseng.

At Chester Gap Cellars your tasting is free if you buy a bottle of wine. Simple enough and after all isn't that why tastings were created to begin with? Too many wineries charge too much money for a tasting when they should be selling bottles of wine. Chester Gap is not afraid. They let their wine speak for itself. Not only that but the host is charming with his German accent and the views are lovely from the deck.

My husband and I stopped to buy a nice bottle of wine, purchasing the 2011 Voigner Reserve which was excellent. Stop in, if only for the view across the forest to the east and to enjoy a friendly conversation with the owner.

Chester Gap is a small, family run winery with great wines. The wine maker is a true artist and you usually get to talk to him and/or his wife in the tasting room. I recently drank some 2008 reds that I had put down, and they were sublime. I definitely recommend visiting this gem of a winery.

We visited four days ago and upon entering we were greated by a nice woman. She explained the tastings and we chose the full tasting. The wines were just average at best. We did purchase one dessert wine, but compaired to other wineries we had been to that week, decided the others just didn't match up so we would leave it at that. We were the only ones there and felt as if we had pulled up to the wrong place and almost didn't go in. Maybe on a weekend our experience would have been different. I can say however that the deck did have a nice mountain view.

I made a solo trip to here on a recommendation from another vineyard. It was well worth the trip and being a gorgeous day I was able to sit out on their deck and enjoy a beautiful view of the valley.
