Wonderful Civil War era treasure in charming town of Faals Church, VA. Knowledgeable guides, hands on activities for young children, free but donations are welcomed.

The History on the Cherry Hill Farmhouse is interesting. The entire visit should take you about 15 minutes, maybe 20 if you read everything.

If you've seen other historic houses in the Mid-Atlantic such as Mt. Vernon, the Biltmore, Monticello or the houses in Charleston, you won't be too impressed with the Cherry Hill Farmhouse. It's a rather unremarkable two-story three-bedroom house dating back to the mid 19th Century. The most interesting aspect of it is that while many historic houses such as the ones listed above were built by the wealthy and famous, this is the rare historic house that shows how a normal American family of the time (albeit, an upper-middle class family) lived. The staff is very friendly and welcoming, and the house doesn't take much time to see - the living room, dining room, kitchen and two of the three bedrooms are restored and open to the public. There is also a barn nextdoor to the house that was built contemporaneously with the house that has some period farm implements and exhibits on what Falls Church was like in the 19th Century. The farm was also briefly occupied by the Union Army during the Civil War, and on "Civil War Day," uniformed reenactors set up camp on Cherry Hill Park, the small park that surrounds the farmhouse.

Lovelingly restored. Excellent curator, interesting and always have fun activities. Civil War Day and Valentine tea are my favorites. The barn is open for concerts during the summer and the back has exhibits with great perspective on how tools were used in the old days! Plus Falls Church is such a walkable city, you are within a block of a dozen excellent restaurants and shops!

I've been going since I was a kid and the park is wonderful, as well as the concerts they put on there. there can be very many people there sometimes...

The park next to the farmhouse is much more exciting than the farmhouse itself, but it is a nice way to spend some outdoor time with small children. I wouldn't go out of way to see it, but if I'm in the area, I like to take my kids here. Lots of special events are held here throughout the year.

This was a very nice old building in the middle of the hustle and bustle, but not really much to see.
