james monroe birthplace

James Monroe’s birthplace is located between Oak Grove and Colonial Beach in Virginia. However, there is no reconstructed home on the site yet. The foundation of the home was uncovered in 1976. There is a monument and historical sign marking the site where James Monroe was born. Another sign marks the garden area on the property. It looked like the size of the home was surveyed because there were several posts that marked what looked to be the length and width of his birthplace. There is a visitor center on the property which was closed when we visited. So maybe sometime in the future visitors will see a reconstruction of Monroe’s home.I would rate this higher if there were more to see.
