Absolutely fascinating. Even in the winter, with many of the buildings closed, this is highly recommended. The docents were knowledgeable and enthusiastic, and being able to climb aboard the ships and go down below to see living quarters and the like, make this highly recommended.It's not cheap--$25 apiece, but worth it.

Having watched the Mayflower II transit the Mystic River and dock at the Mystic Seaport for renovation, I was excited to actually go aboard and see the repair work in progress, March 2015. Access to this replica of the original Mayflower requires climbing 48 steps up scaffolding with four landings each with 12 steps between. The docent enthusiastically shared his comprehensive knowledge about the ship. Going aboard dramatically reveals the cramped quarters of the 25 crew and 106 passengers. If you're planning on seeing the Mayflower II at Mystic Seaport, be aware that it will return each May during the three-year renovation to Plymouth Plantation for the summer tourist season. We arrived at Mystic Seaport about 2 hours before closing time, so most of the larger tour buses had left for the day, and we had the place mostly to ourselves. Definitely pay attention to the schedule, as one of my favorite things there was the presentation of music on whaling ships. Most of the volunteer staffs would keep to themselves unless you asked question, then they revealed themselves as founts of fascinating factoids. I felt like I needed a plan in order to get the most out of the experience; otherwise, it was just a bunch of interesting ships.

We arrived here a day before a blizzard and saw before more snow on the ground. Then, after the blizzard went again and just beautiful to see everything covered in fresh snow. Beautiful homes surrounding the seaport and toured the seaport museum which I found to be fascinating. Definitely would return in the future.

Wonderful views, great food, friendly locals. It was fun despite the weather and sub-zero temperatures. Definitely worth the stop. Eat some seafood and visit the spice and tea shop located at the edge of the drawbridge. Fantastic!

Mystic Seaport and Mystic Village are charming places to visit if you love the ocean, beach or anything nautical! I went in the colder months so a lot of it wasn't open but from what I saw it was beautiful! It is a nice place to walk around and explore. We went in the gift shop which is pretty big and there was a lot to see inside. Upstairs they even have a room with large, beautiful, old fashioned photos for sale but they are fun to look at to see Mystic's history. Outside the gift shop is the Mystic welcome center and you are right by the water so you can see the old fashioned ships and sail boats docked. At the village down the road there are old fashioned buildings with cute shops inside. It is also a nice place to walk around. I recommend visiting in the warmer months, especially since you are going to be outside most of the time. I definitely recommend making a visit to Mystic Seaport and Village!

If you love history and the sea, there's no better place to enjoy both. Set on the scenic Mystic River, Mystic Seaport takes the visitor back in time to an era when sailing ships ruled the seas and sailors found their bearings in the sky. It's a replica of an entire seaside town with everything from a shop where old vessels are restored to a small planetarium to old ships of all kinds and knowledgeable staff who'll explain their history. If that's not enough, one of my favorite things is the maritime art gallery. I don't want to give away my secret, but Mystic Seaport has perhaps the finest collection of maritime art in the country. And the town itself is pretty and quaint, with nice shops, restaurants and even the famed Mystic Pizza. It's a place I come back to year after year.

While staying at Foxwoods we took a side trip to Mystic Seaport for the day and went to the aquarium which is a great acquarium. Went to the shops at Mystic right across the street. I love going in and out of the quaint shops. Its a nice day out. The Seaport itself is a little pricey and really not much to do except walk around. It sort of reminded me about Bethpage Village in Bethpage Long Island.All in all I would recommend this side trip for the day. Great restaurants also right there.

Mystic Seaport is a step back to the Old World - truly authentic and extremely informative. We enjoyed the history immensely.

Went there for this "Gala" reopening. My son's 13th birthday. Advertising stated we could explore the MayflowerII. Nope. Disappointed. Only a few shops open. Disappointing. No food shops open. Had to walk to Latitude 41. Great food. High prices. We went to the Aquarium after lunch. At least they were fully open.

We have been here probably more than 2 dozen times in the past 6 years. Our kids have come here since they were infants and there is always something for them. For me, I just love walking around and drinking it all in. My husband loves taking a ride on the Sabino steamboat and a horse and buggy ride around the green. The kids love exploring, the little pirate shows,the kids museum and the kids play area where they can climb on the playground boats. You can go here over and over and never see it all. The gift shop is probably the very best museum gift shop I have ever been in. Beautiful quality items, fantastic book store, cute bake shop as well as affordable kids souvenirs. This is one of our family's favorite spots in New England.

Loved the Seaport- even in the rain. Very scenic. The shops in the area were quaint. The people were friendly, and very eager to help. The food in town was delicious. It definitely left me wanting to return & check out more of the sights. Our hotel was close by making it very easy to navigate it.

This is a "living museum" and looks like a old seaport town. Each building houses something of interest - how documents were printed, how rope was made, a bank, etc. In some of the buildings people, dressed in period outfits, explain the content or how life was lived in the day.There are boats to tour and ride, special exhibits and live demonstrations. It's hard to imagine someone coming here and not finding something they are interested in.There's also a lot of exhibits/ hands on activities just for kids. The seaport is basically right around the corner for the Mystic aquarium so the two can make a nice weekend for a family

Informative & fun for 3 to 4 hours - very pretty. e enjoyed the printers shop and the boat restoration area as well as touring the whaler.
