If you want a really easy, but decent length hike Weir Farm is the place. Did you know its the only National Park in Connecticut? Also fun for the family is when they have the painting day. The farm supplies you with the board, paper and paints. You take it from there.

Step into American Impressionism at Weir Farm NHS. Be sure to stop by the Visitor Center to watch the video and then take the self-guided Paintings Sites Tour using the guide available at the front desk. The guide points you in the direction of the view for each painting. This would be a lovely place to visit several times throughout the year to see the changing landscape. The park is seasonal (studios, house, and visitor center are open Jun-Nov), but the grounds are open year round. Inside the Visitor Center, they have a nice display of Sperry Andrews's works as well. If you arrive at the right time, you can join a house tour. The studios are also available for viewing. This is a no-fee park, so be sure to take advantage of it. Also, I purchased a few items at the bookstore, and they placed in my bag a nice brochure about Weir and a 4-painting handout printed on cardstock, which if you so desired could be carefully trimmed and framed. I thought that was a nice touch.I recommend Weir Farm for those interested in American Impressionism and history in general.

I didn't even know Connecticut had a national park. until I saw one of the Park Service's vans on the road advertising J. Alden Weir's Farm. As a fan of Impressionism, I had to visit. The house tour is free, and when I went, I was the only one there. The Park Ranger spent a lot of time asking my questions. There was one docent on site as well, to give a tour of Weir's studio, and his son-in-law Mahonri Young's. I just wish I had visited earlier to see the fall foliage. The grounds remain open year-round, so it would be worth it to come back to see the wintry landscape.

Weir farm is like an undiscovered diamond. The natural setting reflected in Weir's paintings are set in time. The tour of the house and studio give a wonderful picture of an artist colony and the time in which it thrived. Great for hiking. painting,and gadens appreciation too!

The grounds are lovely and the docents are pleasant and knowledgeable. The history behind Weir Farm is fascinating and well worth the trip. Leave two hours to take the guided tour and also have time to stroll to the pond and explore the grounds.

We've been waiting to visit this site as it is the birthplace of American impressionism. It is on a lovely road and it is exceedingly picturesque. The grounds, studios, film and tours were wonderful and there is no fee. We were lucky that it was not too hot as walking around the bldgs. and grounds would be unpleasant in the heat of summer, at least for us. Painting supplies are provided on loan for those interested. Park rangers and guides were exceptionally nice.

Very scenic and serene. I loved all the nature trails and exploring. I'll come back to do some watercolors.

This lovely small park with renovated antique buildings was the home and studio of Alden Weir, a prominent member of the Connecticut Impressionists. It is on the Connecticut Art Tour. Well worth a visit. A small gallery has changing exhibits. There is also a guide to locations on the lovely old farm property to show artists where they can paint the same scenes as Weir. They often have a few very pleasant summer afternoon jazz concerts and lectures.

I wasn't expecting great things from this historic site, but was really surprised how much we enjoyed this stop. There are a lot of trails you can hike, tours of the house are offered, and the visitor center has about a 15 minute video that gives a decent overview of the site. The staff was friendly. It was a very relaxing place to look around after being in the car after a long drive. The drive up to the site is also very scenic.

This small national park is a quite and peaceful retreat in suburban Conn. It is the only park unit dedicated to an artest and preservers the landscape and studio of Weir. Guided tours of the house and grounds are offered as well as selfguided tours of the studious as well as many art based activites. I fell the best part of a visit is just walking the trails and gardens. Visitor services are pretty much limited to rest rooms and a small gift shop. Free admission is a nice perk of this park.

Watched an amazing jazz concert in a spectacular setting for free. On a summer evening there is nothing better.

I live quite near the park and visit it often. Rangers are knowledgeable and helpful. Beautiful woodlands, fields and pond. Weir's homestead has been refurbished and is now open for visitors. There are frequently artists in residence and the park offers art materials so you can try your hand at drawing. Great place to get the feel of the Impressionist era in American art.

Weir Farms is a low key national park in Wilton/Ridgefield. Undergoing renovations now, but fun outing if you're in the area and interested in art and/or feel like hiking.

We are so lucky to have a National Park (Historic Site) in Wilton! Beautiful grounds for strolling any time of the year, art exhibit, and classes. For a national park experience close to home, I wouldn't miss it, even if only for the Park Rangers with those great iconic hats.
