Nice trail that goes around the pond, not too difficult unless it's recently rained or melting snow. Very pretty in the fall, dogs allowed, supposed to be on leash but rarely are. Sometimes the other "hikers" are a little sketchy, but never had a problem. Be careful of snakes by the dam, lots of them. You can cross the spillway in low water, only a few inches deep.

Burr Pond is simply the best park overall in the state. There is a sandy beach, loads of picnic tables and barbecue grills in the evergreen and hardwood trees at the water's edge, good swimming (the water is very clean) and the best 2.2 mile trail that circles the lake. The fishing is often good but best done from a boat -- kayaks can be rented during high season. It is never very crowded with the exception of holidays. Dogs are permitted everywhere but the beach and the water but many people take their dogs to swim by the boat launch which has a separate parking area. I visit this park at least 3 days a week year round and I have never felt unsafe. There is a problem with goose poop from Canada geese from March (when they are making families) to early summer (when they avoid the greater population and the goslings are more mobile) but this seems to be true everywhere. Don't let it keep you away. A fee is charged in the summer.

Burr Pond is great for hiking and for Kayaking! Very pretty. The swimming is ok. I don't care for pond or lake swimming. But it is beautiful to be there!

Awful. Saw a park patrol officer repeatedly throwing large sticks and rocks at two quiet geese and their babies who were swimming in the shallow parts of the water. This occurred about three feet away from where my mother and I were relaxing. The trail is nice but the management, or at least this one particular worker, is terrible.

Beautiful park great views and facilities. We made 2 trips to this park we liked it so much. We took younger children and teenagers. The parking was free and ample. There are bathrooms and several grilling areas throughout the park to use. There is a beach area with life guards and changing houses. There is also a kayak rental and consession stand which were both closed on both trips we made.It did not matter we had our own snackes and drinks. The fishing. was fun and each of us caught at least one fish which we released. The park has walking and hiking trails and a boat launch ramp. The views are pretty and we took plenty of pictures near the waterfall. A really.great experience cannot wait to return.

There is a great walking trail that loops the pond. It's great for taking leashed dogs for a walk. I'd suggest staying away from the water though. It's overgrown with weeds, except near the beach area, which makes for bad swimming and/or kayaking in my opinion.

It is great for a kayak trip! It is relaxing and not too overcrowded at all! Certainly worth a day to relax at! I'm glad I went!

Dirty, crowded, kids out of control, lots of open beer drinking, huge amounts of garbage all over, water Is dark and muddy. Did not feel safe here at all. This use to be a good place to go locally to cool off and enjoy the afternoon but no more. Went there, put up with the foul smells for about a half an hour and just had to leave. I strongly suggest to take the short drive to Mt. Tom in Litchfield.

Nested in the top of a large hill in Torrington, Ct no buildings on the lake. Surrounded by walking trails. Nice swimming area but the water gets very deep very fast. Good fishing and a state boat launch nearby that is free. Picnic area is expansive covers acres with spots near the beach, hidden in the woods or on a quiet cove. Lots of parking.

The pond is very nice with a well maintained beach, picnic area, concession stand and bathrooms. There is a free public boat launch (no motors) and a wonderful trail around the pond. I have never done any fishing there but I often see others fishing and they appear to enjoy it.

Very picturesque a lot of walking trails around the park a very nice swimming and picnic area. The main thing is to get there early and enjoy the cool refreshing northwest hills and if you have a canoe you can take advantage of the quiet waters ther is a convenient boat launch adjacent to the park

We went once and the setting is very nice and scenic, however, it was very crowded and the kids seemed particularly wild and out of control without any parental admonitions. The water is very churned up with a lot of debris including trash. Maybe that's because it was so crowded. There is ample parking, clean bathrooms and a nice little snack stand that wasn't too expensive. Maybe if you go on an off time, it might be more pleasant. Yes, they do charge $8 per carload so be prepared.

Clean, close to home, just can't be beat. No entrance fee's and well groomed trails. Cannot say anything bad.
