Comfortable not commercialized. Myself, my wife and 2 children 10 & 5 have been here a few times in the past 2 years. The mountain is perfect for toddlers to experts. The Mountain: I consider myself intermediate and it's perfect for me without taking the very steep runs which would be great for experts. There are a few places to eat either a fast bite or sit down. Lessons: My 5 year old loves the children's learning area. It's like a fenced in chuckie cheese where you bring ur toddler/child, they take ur name and phone number then he/she learns for 1-4 hours and you can watch or ski yourself and pick them up with a numbered ticket. The adult/young adult lessons are very helpful. My son learned to snowboard from them and wife who has just started to learn is doing great. Staff: I can't say enough. I have had the pleasure of speaking to staff from food service, lifts, counter, teaching/lessons as well as a manager Jay who I think runs the mountain. All are helpful and seem to like taking the time to talk and give advice. All in all a real down to earth great place to ski, board and learn.

I thought the 35$ price tag for a weekday was a little steep, but for what it is and the size of the hill it is just fine. Runs were well groomed. Even more advanced novice skiers will become bored here quickly. Might be worth the extra hour or so up to Butternut if you plan to spend more than 2-3 hours skiing. Little ones and individuals who are new to the sport will find the small runs welcoming.

This is not a big mountain but it's great for those working/living in Westchester and Fairfield counties. Close enough so you can go there after work. It has night skiing. Prices are very reasonable especially if you get a frequent skier pass. For the warm winters they have good snowmaking and the best part you never spend more than a minute or two waiting on the lift.

Mount Southington is great for a short afternoon visit. Lift lines were not long. Prices were a little on the high side for such a small area, but overall not a bad afternoon. Good for if you're just learning to ski or snowboard.

This is a small mountain which is decent for teaching your kids to ski. It is close and convenient to the Hartford area. Lift tickets and lessons are reasonable. Lift lines the day we went were minimal, particularly earlier in the day. There is not a wide variety of terrain, ski runs, or vertical drop. You'll start repeating runs after the fifth or sixth time up the mountain. Facilities are a close walk to parking lot; no shuttle bus required here!

This place is convenient located right off I 84. Close to home, with reasonable prices and quality services, it will be (from now on) one of our favorite places to go for a long weekend versus a long trip to a overpriced Vermont and its low quality lodging. At Mt. Southington is enough room for beginners as well for advanced skiers and snowboarders. The rental equipment is in pretty good condition and the snow is great. There are plenty of instructors available for every one who wants to learn and a "safe" feeling comes with the presence of the "Ski Patrol". If the cold gets you more than the fun does, there is a cafeteria ( maybe in a need of a little upgrade) where you can get a snack and a hot chocolate. People are nice, kind and helpful from the girls at the ticket office to the person at the chair lift. We did have a great long weekend and we definitely go again! Great place for family fun !

I learned how to ski here. My high school snowboard club snowboarded here. Now I'm teaching my kids how to ski here. This is not really a "mountain" -- it's more like a bump. Bump Southington. But it's OUR bump!

This is a small, family friendly mountain which is perfect for an affordable ski experience for children and teens. Our kids enjoyed the proximity of the mountain and the opportunity to night ski. They loved practicing jumps and the terrain park. Not much in terms of elevation, but a great way to get the kids on skiis and improve their skills for longer trips up north. The lifts chairs are uncomfortable and the lifts slow, but no complaints based on expectations and great liftopia deals for night skiing.

What a great day! We go every year, and the lessons are the best! The kids are old enough now to ski anywhere they want, and the convenience is great! They have a barbeque going outside, and a fire pit to sit around if it's a decent day! There are also hotels and restaurants nearby if you want to make a weekend of it! I have been to many ski mountains, and the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff at Mount Southington always makes me feel good about going.

my 6 year old daughter and I have been skiing together for 3 years now and we really enjoy Mount Southington. First, it is SO convenient to everywhere.. and once you park, you just walk across the very flat driveway to the ticket booth. Second, they have a very nice learn to ski program and beginners chair lift (double) for her to practice on the bunny hill...once she because confident with that, we progressively moved up the hills... also, a big thing last year was the addition of the waffle house!! she loved that. everyone from the lift operator to the people in the restaurant are super nice. DON"T take any of this for granted as we have 2 very horrible experiences at other local mountains (although, besides these two bad mountains, The rest of the local ones are very good too)... we have made many memories there so far and she can't wait for winter this year ....

Enjoyed a weekend here in March and loved the experience for our children. Our four year old did a great job learning how to ski - he really enjoyed it. Out 9 year old, who had skied before, took a lesson and then skied with my wife and I for the rest of the day. He really picked up some great tips and he liked the instructor. The resort is small but they have lots of food & beverage choices. The staff is friendly. For those used to Colorado or Vermontr resorts, you may be disappointed but for those looking to have their children learn, this is a fantastic place to start!

How convenient to have this family destination right in town. After school of after dinner for a couple hours makes it great. It's certainly not the biggest or fanciest ski area in New England but it exudes lots of charm and is priced right. There always coupons and vouchers you can find to make even more affordable. I hope they can keep this place going another 50 years!

Classic nightime ski area with a great old style family lodge, and really nice people. They catered an adult surprise birthday party for a friend and it was very good and professionally serviced.

We found beautiful snow and sufficient room in the beginner area to practice. We were thrilled to be able to try a chairlift for the first time. The operator was very kind and taught us how to get on and off. Unfortunately, the kids working the rental department were not well trained, the restrooms were old and out dated and the lift ticket and rental prices were as high as much nicer ski areas in VT. I did not take a lesson but being on the beginner slopes for the afternoon I witnessed many lessons. Many of the instructors were too young and inexperienced for my liking. Students were out of control- crashing into people and falling down -most of the time.

Me and my roommate came here in search of fresh powder which is what we got. Great runs, a bit of an issue with the lifts as they would periodically shudder and stop which can be quite disheartening. Either way it was super fun! Only thing is that the restrooms are oddly located and I walked into a boiler room due to poor signage. All in all I would come back especially for the 3p-8p sunset session only 30$!
