This large, scienic lake in the Litchfield Hills is very picturesque. The lake is surrounded by hills, and we particularly love to drive the perimeter road in the Fall, when the sky and foliage are reflected in the water. The lake is not over-developed, and there is a State park with a campground and picnic area. There are also an award-winning winery and a magnificent inn overlooking all this natural beauty.

This place is ideal for a picnic stop. There are some benches overlooking the pretty lake and in fall, the leaves were beautiful on the trees. The only criticism is that there are no trash cans - very unusual. We had to take our rubbish with us - inconvenient and it could result in littering. The spot was very beautiful though.

We go camping at the State Park every September and our site has a beautiful view of the Lake. There are many activities on the Lake. Campground sites don't have electric or water. Great place for a picnic on both ends of the Lake

As we all know camping trips--include but not limited to—laughter, drinks, fire and staying up late with family. We were stun to discover that we were evicted and fined by 10 complaints nearby the site. Instead of the State Park trooper investigating our story we were kicked out as group because we were… simply COLORED. This is an act of racism in the town of Kent, Connecticut and the state park of Lake Waramaug. There is quiet time at 10:00 but no rules on the website to explain the consequence, we did not receive a pre-warning form any troopers between the hours of 10pm-3am, a resident did make a noise complaint at 3:00pm and we stopped. Importantly, not everyone was out making noises, some of us were asleep. Instead of fining or evicted a few people the State Park decided to collectively kick out a group of mainly Asian people. In addition with the eviction and not being reimburse for our money back, we received a fine for each cabin we stayed in! This review will be filed with the State of Connecticut Against Discrimination in order for an investigation to be inquire. I asked all races to not go to this State Park.

We have camped here before (about 3 years ago) had planned a 2 day 2 night stay this week. The lake is beautiful and the place was mostly empty so the issue of early quiet hours didn't really matter. We were disappointed that they no longer have a camp store to buy wood, water and coffee at, however we were still excited to enjoy our family time. What we didn't realize however is there is a terrible infestation of SKUNKS! Many many skunks. They were bold coming as close as 5 feet from us and even sitting right outside our tent! the lady who checked us in said they had seen a few skunks around so be aware. THAT was an understatement. They started coming around 10 pm, saw 3 IN OUR CAMPSITE by the time we gave up, put out the fire and went to bed at 11. When my husband stepped out of the tent at about 11:30 pm, we had several (4-5) right in our campsite! One was right outside the door of our tent at about 2 am. My neighbor in the next campsite saw 2 by the bathrooms at 5 am. We had all food placed in our car and all garbage had been brought to the dumpster. We felt trapped in our tent, afraid to go outside. We love sitting around the campfire at night and talking. The skunks ruined it for us. We hardly slept. Left the next morning. Unless you are a die hard camper, not afraid of skunks- rethink staying here. We will not return.

Planned family get together (see each other once per year) since February with a lot of us being first time campers . They have crowded camp sites, which made things difficult to be quiet for 10pm quiet time when we thought we were. They handled things very unprofessional, thinking we did nothing wrong the next day preparing lunch getting ready for next day activities. Rude, unreasonable park Rangers slapped us with fine, loss of day, and forcing us to leave within an hour. Why we didn't get told to be more quiet night before sherif says we were low on staff. Doesn't it take one staff member? Sketchy excuse after Sketchy excuse. I don't recommend the place but just be aware if you go

I came here looking forward to having a nice two-night weekend trip with friends and family.Eighteen of us were staying in three different cabins. We just arrived during the night and was excited to see friends & family members. The camping area is way too close to each other ( NO PRIVACY AT ALL ). About four of us were drinking and sitting by the fire, chatting and laughing about old times, we didn't realize we were loud, no one on staff warned us to quit down throughout the whole night, until one neighboring camper asked us nicely to quiet down ( which we did and went to bed. ) The next day the Park Rangers kicked all eighteen of us out of the park with no fair warning at all; then they fined three people that rented out the cabins $75 each for disturbing the peace; plus, they didn't give us our refund for just staying one night out of two nights. When we asked why there wasn't any park rangers to warn for being a little loud? The Park Ranger supervisor said " There's wasn't enough staffing. " That should make us feel real safe right? This place was unprofessional and extremely rude.IF YOU ARE A MINORITY I HIGHLY SUGGEST THAT YOU NOT CAMP OVERNIGHT. PEOPLE HERE MAKE YOU FEEL OUT OF PLACE OR AN OUTSIDER.MY WORST CAMPING EXPERIENCE EVER, THANKS A LOT LAKE WARAMAUG!!!

It's great if you got a boat to go out & view the lake...but if not it is very boring to camp here. There are no activities for the kids to do.The Beach was closed MOST of the time we were there cause of High Bacteria in the Beach area!We were suppose to stay for 2 weeks but left cause of lack of hot/warm showers...the water was mostly cold!In there website it says they provided a camp store & ice machine which was not there when we went & they said they have not had that for over a year...so to me that's false advertising on their part on their website.Which to me is not cool cause for people like me...we were expecting that!!!The bathrooms were not clean & up to par like they should have been! And it's not a handicap accessible camp site at all!My husband is handicap and had problems going to the bathroom there!!!I will never go back to this campground EVER!!It was the WORST experience I had ever had with my family!!

Pros: Change areas for swimming, free parking, kayak rentalsCons: limited beach, views nothing to boast aboutLake Waramaug is a actually a pretty nice lake side park, but it didn't have much in the way of anything special to comment on. There is ample free parking across the street where they have washroom and change rooms. I imagine this place is fairly popular in the summer for kids who want to swim. They have a dedicated area for swimming while the rest is left over for boating/kayaking.We came to the area to kayak and that's what we did. They actually had a very good deal - $10 for one hour to rent a kayak. I've kayaked before so I felt comfortable to take a $10 rental and try it out - but this was my gf's first time. The boats were fine, seemed solid. They didn't come with a skirt, so your shorts will get wet using the boat. The life jackets supplied were the cheap over the head ones, so if you're not comfortable in the boat to begin with you may want to bring a more substantial one for piece of mind. The water was pretty smooth with only small waves and a bit of waves. We both felt comfortable making our way around the lake looking at the nice homes with line it. An hour was enough time to exercise our arms and get back.If I lived in the area I would go back to relax on the beach, but I don't think I would tell anyone to go out of their way to visit this park.

This lake has been our go to summer picnic spot. With kayak rentals available on location (memorial - Labor Day), beach for kids and clean restrooms this is ideal for a summer day. We have been here several times for birthdays & get togethers and have always felt great!

Stayed at the campground over Memorial Day (opening) weekend- so campground was at full capacity the whole time. Rangers were nice and campground and bathrooms were pretty clean. Showers were free, but occasionally ran out of hot water. Campsites are very large, grassy, and level - however they use the "parking lot" setup so there is NO privacy at all. Stunning lake to both look at and swim in. Canoe & kayak rentals available at very reasonable rates ($15/hour I believe), or bring your own. Not a bad campground, but just not our style.

I have been coming here for the last 5+ years with my kiddo on Father's Day and keep coming back for more. Beautiful lake, nicely sized camping spots with clean and functional facilities, swimming area, picnic tables, kayak rentals, close proximity to ice cream shop and one of the funkiest wine shops I've seen in this side of the woods, love it!

Nice place to have a picnic. Park provides grills, dogs are allowed (as long as they are on a leash). Parking is $9.00 cash only. Beautiful views, family friendly, roped off swimming area, bathrooms some what clean.

A beautiful lake surrounded by very pretty vistas, wineries and picnic grounds. There are a couple of restaurants. The scenic drive around the lake is gorgeous and the colors of the views change with the seasons. Summer and Fall are my favorite. Camping is well organized.
