We stop by a couple times a year. During the winter it's a lovely quiet destination, in the summer twice we decided not to get out of the car because the deer flies looked ravenous.

I've got to move my body...so I have moved my home ---and the first great walking and hiking area I have found is Cromwell Meadows Wildlife Management Area in Cromwell. You can reach this area by Route 9 or on the other side of the area off of Rt. 372 ( above the Stop and Shop)Let me also tell you that about all the maps for this are of Cromwell and Middletown are not 100 % correct....but if you get off Route 9 just follow along and you will see a sign on the left for the area....and if your using Route 372 which by the way crosses route 9---once past this junction you will see a sign on the right side by a street stating it being the Wildlife Area. This area is great for everyone...the kids...the grandparents.....teens and adults. The paths are very well marked and laid with what I want to call railroad stones.Don't come out here in flip flops or crocks. You need good strong sneakers or even hiking boots.....mostly because of the materials used to line the path. This is a real nice place without being in dense woods. The sun filters thru the trees , the birds sing......and the areas are of different strata from small flowers in the woodland to water areas to wooded areas.I have not done all the trails--but I am rebuilding my health after a long illness and I found the hiking to be so good for me with changes in terrain --but at least in the first miles no extreme hills or walking areas..........smaller inclines which are great ......I will write more about this area as I further explore it.I think --get the kids out and the dog and Get Moving here at the Wildlife Area !
