This was a theatrical production of the musical, "Hair". The show was delightful. This was an unpaid cast singing and dancing through Galt McDermot's music. It is always refreshing to see a cast of youthful performers playing their. Eat on stage.

My sweetheart and I, along with 58 other of our friends from Oronoque Village, went to the Downtown Cabaret this evening for their performance of "Forever Motown". I have been to this cabaret a number of times over the years. It recently was closed down for 6 months for renovations, but to tell the truth, none of us could see any renovations. Our seats were wonderful, it is convenient to get to. Don't waste the $7 parking fee in the "official lot", or waste the $9 in the 50 feet closer "unofficial parking lot". Park on the street or in front of City Hall. And definately bring your goodies to eat. It's a wonderful venue to see any performance.

Great shows at this theatre...worth the price. Really good local talent and professionally produced.

I have been visiting the Downtown Cabaret Theatre since 1976 and have enjoyed countless shows. I've been there for: the theatrical performances, the musicals, the children's shows, and the tribute bands. Rarely have I seen a show that I did not like. Rarely have the performers failed to entertain me. With that being said, I am not a great fan of The Cabaret and often question the direction in which the theatre is heading. The early days were reminiscent of local community theater; your banker, barber, or next door neighbor were often found on stage. This gave way to "professional" actors and the theater actors guild - which translated into pay scales and higher ticket prices. Professional did not always translate into "better" performances and I found that we drifted away from the venue for a while to enjoy more economical entertainment. On a visit to the theater last year for a Beatles tribute band, I was dismayed to find that the entire calendar was devoted to tribute bands. Looking at the current box office calendar, however, it appears that there is an attempt to return to the early days with the help of the Bridgeport Theatre Company. Upcoming performances include: Hair; The Wiz; and Lord of the Flies.I hope that this partnership works well and that "community theater" can return to the Cabaret.Criticism aside, the Downtown Cabaret offers a unique opportunity to eat (bring your own food), drink (bring your own alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverages) and socialize with friends and family in a cabaret setting.

What theater can you go to and enjoy the show, food, friends and fun! Make a point to visit. You won't be disappointed.

The Bridgeport Theatre Company shares this theatre and provides outstanding entertainment value. The company offers both musicals and dramas each perfectly staged, well acted and amazing in their own right. This theatre company adds a fantastic reason to visit a great venue for the arts.

I have been a patron of the Downtown Cabaret Theater for years..it has always been a favorite of mine but these last few years, the quality of the shows have slumped a bit. In past years, I would have rated them excellent. They used to have a full season of wonderful broadway productions with top notch talent. It was a great way to see all the musicals you might have missed in NYC on Broadway or to see your favorites a second time. The theater fell on hard times a few years back, I believe they just weren't getting the support they needed to finance the high quality productions they had previously put on. They went through a few years where there really was very little worth seeing. In recent few years, they started offering musical evenings (such as the music of the Beatles, Supremes, Neil Diamond, Streisand & Sinatra, Fleetwood Mac) presented by extremely talented musicians in addition to a couple of musical play productions each season. This is not the old Downtown Cabaret that I long for but it is better than the alternative..no Cabaret at all. The theater is currently under renovation and will present a full schedule beginning in the fall. Because it is small, there really isn't a " bad" seating he house. Patrons sit at tables and are permitted to bring in food and drink (wine included). There is sufficient time to eat before the show if you arrive early and go in when the doors open. There is also a concession that sales snacks, beverages and ice. There is parking available free on-street or in a guarded lot for $5.00. It is a fun evening with family or friends. Go out and support this local theater.

The Cabaret theater is a true treasure; enjoyable entertainment in an intimate setting at a reasonable price. I couldn't ask for more!

Cabaret used to be a great place for friends to go out bring bottles and snacks and see a live show/performance. It seems lately it only has shows for children. what a shame, it really needs to bring back the quality shows that are meant for adults. it was once a great little theater.

The Downtown Cabaret Theatre is one of those places locals know about and visitors rave about -- once they find it! Located across from City Hall, the cabaret is almost hidden in plain sight. You'd never know how extensive it is, nor how well-planned an establishment it is unless you walk down the Broad Street Stairs and enter it on your own. I've been to a special event at the cabaret and enjoyed the theater's ability to present events well. I have not been to a theatrical production or cabaret show, so I cannot comment on the resident company's work.
