A pleasant country drive along the Connecticut shoreline. It avoids the heavy traffic of Rt. 1 at the expense of a few more miles of driving. However calling it a scenic drive is a mistake. While it is true that you do get few glimpses of the water, most shoreline drives offer than much. Best taken on a high speed Harley-Davidson with a gutted muffler. Make the locals know you are there.

Delightful drive after our early dinner at the Dockside, never knew they had such beautiful waterfront homes along this drive.

From other reviews we were looking forward to a scenic route. It wasn't scenic, just an OK back road.

Growing up in the area whenever I come home I always take this road. In the summer there is a great road side farm market

Living along the Connecticut shoreline is a wonderful thing. Growing up my father would pile us into the Volkswagon bus and take us for long drives. I say pile us as there were 15 children, but our Sunday drives there were only about eight of us in the bus. We would drive to surrounding states, far away towns, anywhere my father thought we should see. I love to drive. I love finding new roads to go down, new towns to explore, new restaurants, the local places that don't advertise but have great food and local people.Route 146 is one of those special places for me..when my family is driving me crazy or I just need some alone time, I drive down route 146. It's so peaceful to me. I told my sisters if I am ever missing drive down route 146, you will find me there. The scenery is beautiful, marshes, birds, people crabbing, fishing, biking, or just walking. If you are in Connecticut and you have time to just drive down Route 146, it's good for the soul.

146 is a nice short drive if you live around here. I don't think it is one of those drive the I would take a lone trip just to drive it. If you happen to be around Branford take the drive it is nice.

Unless you get car sick/motion sickness, Route 146 is the "smart ride" to take if you have time and are looking for pleasant leisure ride. Route 146 is definitely the best kept secret & most scenic route along the coastline connecting Branford & Guilford. Although the route is very winding, there are still lots of great views of the shoreline, saltmarshes, luxurious homes as well as historical homes that were built back in the 1700's. The road stretches from the center of Branford to the center of Guilford, with historic Stony Creek and outlet to the Thimble Islands located halfway on the route.

The best may be the two trailheads along this drive and one farm market. When local veggies are in season I cannot wait to get there. The bounty includes local eggs and flowers too!The trails are excellent for walking or a bicycle.I believe it is called Timberland and cannot recall the other.

Not sure why this is an attraction. Quiet, local road with some nice homes, a few scenic vistas, etc. Very confusing around Branford Center in that the road is sort of U-shaped to go down by the water, but also marked to go across the top of the U. One intersection literally showed the road going three ways (without any north/south/east/west indication). Quickest way around area is still 95 if traffic is good, but this is a pretty, if slow, drive.

Agree with prior reviews. Route 1 definitely has all the "action," but this is a lovely quiet way to see the surrounding land. You won't regret taking time out to make this drive.

Route 146 is a great ride along the coastline around Branford, Guilford, etc. It's an escape from the hustle and bustle of Route 1 and offers some great land and waterscapes. Will plan another trip soon when it won't be so cold and we can stop an enjoy the scenery.

Scenic drive, with Long Island Sound views, lovely New England charm, and plenty of places to stop off and explore.
