This is a location you should visit. The tour is interesting, well done and gives you insights you might not otherwise have into Vicksburg and the old south. I highly recommend

Four of us, from England, have just taken the tour of this delightful establishment. The owner, Elvin, has a great store of tales about the owners of the house, from the time of Alexander McNutt to his and his wife's own. For over an hour he kept us enthralled with the history of the house and the life and times of Alexander McNutt. Loved the artefacts with which he peppered his talk, including the mortar ball in the back garden. Thanks, Elvin, for an afternoon well spent, putting flesh and blood onto the bones of the Civil War tales. A great adventure for only $5 each.

Our one hour tour was rich in the history of the building, its contents and the delightful outdoor gardens. Call first to arrange a very personal tour by the owner

We had to call to get a tour, we called last minute (literally) and were still able to get in for a tour with the owner. The owner was SO SUPER NICE. I felt bad because I didn't know people actually lived there. I thought it was just a museum house. So they were still taking down Christmas decorations but still allowed us a tour. It was VERY informative and I enjoyed it immensely. Some people say this place is haunted. I believe them. While we were there, we were sitting in a room listening to the owner tell us about historical items they owned. While we were sitting there, a light in a hallway kept turning on/off by itself. My wife asked the owner about it and he said he installed a motion sensor for that light. Not too long after that, I noticed out of the corner of my eye that a woman peeked around the corner where that light was. I saw it twice. My wife also saw this. We weren't sure if that woman was his wife or someone else. They did have guests that day, but we never saw them. Also, the house, being so old, creaks and each step you take, you can hear it on the wooden floors. So, although I took the owner at his word about the motion sensor light (the owner is an admitted skeptic), we never heard anyone come down the stairs or go anywhere near that light. The owner no longer allows paranormal groups so if you're a group like that, you won't be allowed to investigate. It was a very interesting tour and we felt it was more personal than other tours

October 2013: We came across the house whilst passing by and although we had not made an appointment the owner had no qualms in providing a tour straight away which was nice. (Although I would suggest to pre book to avoid disappointment). What an enjoyable hour! He tells the house and its previous owners stories with great enthusiasm and also has some very interesting family connections which were also shared. Those with an interesting in the paranormal will find interest in the more spooky ongoings in the house's history. We much preferred the 'story telling' to an audio tour which many other attractions have nowadays. Thank you for your warm welcome.Greg and Sarah, England.

We thank you for the review!! With the ongoing addition of family relics our guided tour normally lasts just over an hour, but we never constrain the time when visitors pose great questions or shares their own experiences with us.
