We went on a camping trip with another couple we RV with often. For some reason, we've never stayed at this MS State Park. With 2 other couples coming to a cabin at the state park, we found John Kyle SP to be the only campground/cabin area we could book. We had the campground occupied by at least 7pm with loads of help by the park ranger working the office. I don't think he had to stay that late. No problem getting into campground after hours. But the 2 couples that booked the cabins didn't get there until about 8pm. Long after office hours. They didn't have keys. After a little deliberation the assistant manager's door was knocked on. After a few minutes the keys were in hand. This alone should get this park 5 stars! We went on to have a great weekend. The only thing that knocks off 1 star is the shape of the campground. Its a great location along the shores of the lower Sardis lake. Most of the sites are fine, but some are extremely short while more had utilities/table on the wrong side. Some also where very close together. I don't think the reservation map tells this. And I've seen cabins in better shape in other MS state parks. All in all we would gladly stay here again. Great staff goes a long way.

We had read several of the reviews, still chose to stay there as we had 2 family reunions in the area. The cabins are not only out of date, they need serious work and cleaning. We had flying insects, spiders and bugs of all descriptions. I know cabins are rustic, but the towels don't need to be!! Thin as paper and rough as sandpaper. If they make improvenments we will go back as the lakes are beautiful.

The cabins are run down but the camping area and bank fishing access is great. Bring your RV or pitch a tent and enjoy what Sardis Lake has to offer.

First, how do you find the campground? The address on the web stated the campground was on State Park Rd. Well, its not. There needs to be signs giving clear directions. 6 campers, including us, were all jammed up at an intersection wondering where the campground was. After 20 minutes on the phone with a lady, here's the directions she relayed us; From State Park Rd, go back to I-55 and go south just north of the Batesville/Oxford on I-55 exit onto hwy 35 (Sardis Dam exit), 8 miles on the left. After all that mess, the convoy made it to the campground. We all check in, shown on the map about where our spot was. (Slap to the forehead) which campsite is which? Stopped to ask a camper where campsite # was and they pointed out that the #'s were on the picnic tables and nearly impossible to make out what the #'s were. After searching and finding the right campsite, another problem. The water hook up was 14 ft further than our 50 ft hose was. So, had to go buy another hose just to connect the RV up. The bathhouse was closed, not a big deal because there are others which are just as in need of cleaning and outdated as the next. Fire pits? No. There are no fire pits so be careful where you build the campfire so you don't start a grass fire. There is no hangers to hang your trash out of critters reach and no trash can at the site, so be sure you provide yourself a place for your trash and not litter. The campground road is excellent and the grounds are pretty well kept up. Just so you know, not all the campsite pads are level. There are a lot of friendly people here with hundreds of kids riding bikes, laughing and playing. Very family oriented campground. Our camp neighbors adore our animals and let their dogs play with ours. There is no 'privacy' at this campground because of the layout of the campsites, but almost every camper is in the shade. The 'quiet hours' are from 10pm until 6am but doesn't seem to have 'quiet hours' because the rules are not enforced.

This is a beautiful state park near Oxford, MS. It is an easy drive to the park. It has walking paths, picnic tables, etc. and is a nice place to visit while spending time with family in the area.

While this state park is beautiful, and the beaches and lake are so nice, the cabins are in bad need of updating or at least some painting! Definitely not worth the $80+. 'We also noticed they were not very clean. Very disappointing weekend as far as the cabin, but we did really enjoy the lake itself, and all of the employees are helpful.
