Amazing collection and exceptional special exhibits, especially when you consider this is in a small town in Mississippi. If you're in the area, it's worth the visit.

The keystone collection is the Catherine Gardiner 'North American Indian Baskets' . . . stunning . . . jaw dropping . . . words do not even begin. There are examples of all types of baskets from tribes from all over the U. S., Canada . . . coastal, southwester, arctic, woodlands, prarie and on. We spent hours. . .. . But that is not all - There is a marvelous collection of Japanese wood block prints, there is wonderful Mississippi pottery from the 1800's and early 1900's, there are other galleries and there is a large room downstairs that had a huge watercolor/mixed media exhibit when we were there. The gallery is also an art research center and has a wonderful gift shop. We stopped on our way to New Orleans and will be stopping on all future trips that are anywhere near this gem.

LRMA is an amazing facility. With beautiful exhibits and great staff, I have throughly enjoyed every visit. The gift shop is stocked with wonderful educational toys and crafts along with gorgeous pottery and locally made jewelry. Definitely worth a visit.

This Museum is a hidden treasure. We went to see the world's smallest woven basket! Wesaw a basket about the size of thimble and thought that was it - but then the curator opened a drawer and there thru a magnifing glass was a basket smaller than a match head. Beautiful! The entire musuem - done up in an old library - is stunning. The building as well as all the displays and art work. If you are any where near Laurel, Miss. this is a must see! The surrounding 19th century homes are also beautiful.

For such a modest town, Laurel has a top quality art research and art museum. Well funded with a 100 year old endowment.

Forget that this is a small city in Mississippi. The art collection would be the pride of any city. Old masters in American and European art are not the only attractions. Native American and Asian works are also on display. The permanent collection is worth the visit but there are also large spaces for loaner exhibitions. The guide was a great resource.

Lauren Rogers Museum is a charming place to get away for a couple of hours. Friendly staff and beautiful creations inside. The atmosphere is very peaceful and lovely.

I know; I know; there's somebody, somewhere who will disagree, but my question is "Have you been to the Lauren Rogers Museum of Art?" It is amazing. Very soon there are great surprises in store, because of a near addition. There is no other art museum with this quality of art and so child friendly. You've got to see it to believe. Come on down, y'all.

Charming escape for a few hours. Stopped by to see a new exhibit. They have a permanent collection of things and usually have a traveling exhibit on display several times a year. Way off the highway and maybe a bit hard to find. Worth the effort. Right in an area of older homes that were enjoyable to see. On-street parking was not a problem.

The Lauren Rogers Museum is an unexpected surprise for a small town the size of Laurel. It has the quality of a large city museum. The building itself is lovely, and the art work which changes periodically is superb.

but it was a delightful small museum when I visited back in 1999. A lovely docent led my sister and me through the collection.

This is an incredible gem in a small town in the south -- MY hometown. It is surprisingly well-curated and has lots of gorgeous pieces to view, as well as periodical exhibits that rival some of the best in the country. Visit LRMA if you drive through Laurel!!!!!

Changing exhibits, newly renovated permanent displays, friendly staff, great gift shop filled with items by local artists, ongoing program of classes for children and adults, plus "lunch with artists" series ~~ what's not to like?? Where else could someone from Mississippi see art by Dale Chihuly and have an opportunity to meet the artist ~ and his family ~ in an unhurried, friendly setting? A wonderful "hidden jewel" in Mississippi!

This is a remarkable museum to find in a small city. The building itself is beautiful and they have made wise curatorial decisions. The museum is focussed on a small number of very particular collections (dictated in part by the interests of the founding family) and each of these collections covers enough of its territory to give a sense of the field and also contains some stunning pieces. I appreciated the personal tour but learned perhaps more than I needed to know about how the museum was run and its current fundraising efforts. All in all, however, it's well worth a visit!

Great museum for little Laurel Mississippi. It's a treasure in a small town.
