maramec spring park

This is the place to go for a day trip, especially if you are a nature lover. I have been many times and still each time I go I find new things. The spring pond is so beautiful, no matter the season. There are multiple trails, bridges, and lots of fish. You will probably see some deer as well on your trip. Take your camera, you will want memories!

It could take an hour or two if you lingered, to come off the highway, visit & return. The spring area, rocks and water, is very lovely and peaceful. The water color has to be seen. The main walk to the spring takes 10 minutes, return, around the other side, the same. Apparently, it's also a fish hatchery. The trout in the water are huge. And the fingerlings in another area are so numerous I was quite surprised. I didn't see the rest of this very nice park area, but the springs are worth a stop.

It was the first place I went trout fishing with my father as a kid and where I've been taking my family for many great memories. There is camping in the park and many local camp sites like Pheasant Acres just up the road who are very nice, accommodating people. There is amazing history within the park itself and the scenery is also something to behold. With the hatchery, the spring, scenery, history displays and the great trout fishing, it is a Missouri "must see".

Great place to go trout fishing. The staff is all very friendly and helpful. The food at the little restaurant is pretty good too though it isn't open every day. It is a great place to camp with your family as well. They have electric and non electric sites.

This place is absolutely beautiful. There are a few places where you can buy food to feed the trout so make sure you have a few quarters on hand. I definitely will go back when I am in the area. My boys and I had such a great time.

This past week my husband and I went to Maramec State Park (for those of you near this area, this IS how they spell it) near St. James, MO....not once, but twice in two days. It was awesome. For me, I loved looking at the beautiful colors of nature and watching the rainbow trout swim in their well kept, clean environment. Also the clear clean water and lush trees and vegetation that lined the paved walkway. My husband enjoyed understanding the raising and growing of the fish and their habitat. There is a museum in the park that explains the natural spring (the 5th largest spring in Missouri). There is a seven minute video and miniature layout of the property for visitors to get a since of the vastness of it all. Don't miss this absolutely beautiful park....you won't regret it. I will surely be going back again and again. There is a minimal fee charged per car.

This is a great get away for campers. They have the main hub of camping and then the group camping and then a few secluded spots to camp. We were in the more secluded spots down by the river. It was a very relaxing. The fish hatchery is well worth the time to go and visit. We were on motorcycles so we didn't go to the museum or do any other activities. Riding the great MO roads by day camping at night. The one downfall why I didn't give a 5 is the bathrooms and showers could be updated big time. I have stayed at smaller campgrounds that had better showers and bathrooms than these. Only one shower house and it is way at the other end if you camped where we were. At least they had bathrooms on our end. Very enjoyable. Had a couple owls visit the campsite at night and the bull frogs serenaded you to sleep. The walk to the bridge to see people trout fishing was just a little ways from our campsite. The cafe on the grounds was very reasonable to eat at and the food and employees were very friendly. Go and camp a few days if you are in the area.

One of the neatest places to visit for just a few minutes or all day. The cool springs is very refreshing on hot days, with the coolness coming off the water. The water is crystal clear. It was fun to feed the fish they have for stocking purposes. Take a hike into the woods for a nature experience, or go up to the nature center for a guided tour. Slowly drive around and see how things were over a 100 years ago. Great for a family picnic.

Enjoyed exploring the spring, checking out the museum and seeing all the fish in the fish hatchery. If you want a chance to swim drive across the river south of the park to the Woodson k Woods Conservation Area, great fun!

This is a lovely, peaceful park with nice walking trails and historical details. Note that there is a charge, $5 per car, but well worth it.

It is difficult to describe the beauty of this private park. You would think you are walking through a movie set. The fish are amazing. My children were in awe of this place. If you are travelling along Interstate 44, you really should stop and take a break here. It is probably better than where you are going.

Maramec is a beautiful, peaceful place. Great spot for trout fishing, but I buy an annual pass ($35) and often go just to walk with my dog. Spring is beautiful in any season. Single admission is $5 per car. Take a picnic and stay a few hours. The scenic car tour (about 1/2 mile) is very interesting and worth a visit. Playground, shelters, and more.

Maramec Spring Park is a great place to get away from it all. The crystal clear spring is full of rainbow trout. There are losts of vending machines along the spring branch trail where you can buy a handful of fish food for a quarter. There are trout-rearing polls along the trail where fish of various sizes will make the water seem to boil as they try to get at the food. The old chimneys, furnaces, and other remains from the old Iron Works still stand near the spring. There is a neat nature museum and an agriculture museum. There are tennis, basketball, and volleyball courts along with lots of playground equipment. Camping is available and, of course, there's the trout fishing. There are lots of picnic tables and large pavillions can be reserved for large groups. However, we love it as it's always a little cooler in the summer and the sound of all the waterfalls eases the mind. We often see red-headed woodpeckers and sometimes see bald eagles, mainly during the winter. There are lots of muskrats and chipmunks in the park. In the evening, watch for whitetail deer to come out into the fields to graze. We come here several times a year. Even our great-grandson asks to go to Maramec Spring. It's just a great place to relax and unwind!

This is a great place for anyone to visit. You can fish, walk, camp, swing, play ball, picnic, BBQ, visit the museum, or just sit and enjoy the scenery. Also for those in the know, Geocaching. If you stay around until dusk, you will see many deer. The spring and the fishery is a sight to behold.

Super treasure just 6 miles from St. James. Beautiful walking trails,variety of picnic areas, informational museums, trout fishing and opportunity to feed the fish in the sanctuary. Wonderful photo opportunities.
