My parents and grandparents have been going to Sam A Baker since before I was born, and I am 50. Since 1994, we have had our family reunion there every other summer, renting all of the cabins. We have so many great memories, and there are so many activities to do, regardless of your age or capabilities. We rent the big pavilion on Friday and Sat nights for our meals, and sometimes have the restaurant cater it. I could not imagine going any place else, and some of us come in a day or two early just to have that extra time. Our family comes in from all over the country, and even though it is a long drive, we couldn't imagine going anywhere else! Jodie and Mike are great hosts.

Nice camping park. Great for kids with bikes. St Francis River was a bit meandering and slow at mid-summer, but 200 yards upstream from the highway 34 bridge, we were visited by a beautiful Bald Eagle. He sat in a tree overlooking a bend in the river for nearly 40 minutes before we had to leave first. Amazing !Missouri runs very nice State Parks....... Albeit, with lots of RVs. If tent camping, campground 1 and sites between 80-94 are on the bike trail and away from the RV traffic. I'd settle in there.....

We visited Sam A Baker State Park on Memorial Weekend and had a lovely time. We stayed in Cabin number 14 which was called "lil' Skeeter", which was a cute cozy cabin. Had everything we needed, including a BBQ and seating out front and even a fire pit. We visited friends staying over in the campground which was an easy walk, and had fun floating and cooling off in the Creek. Also enjoyed hiking the Shut-In Trail. The staff were excellent and check in/check out were very easy. I would recommend bring a bicycle here too, as there is a nice paved path which you can bike along.

I have never camped here, but it is a great way to spend a hot day! My boyfriend and I spent July 4th at the river and, suprisingly, it wasn't very busy. The water was beautiful, clear and there are plenty of places to set up your chairs and stash your cooler. After spending a few hours in the water, we made our way to the bathrooms to change into dry clothes and eat dinner in the restaurant. I enjoyed the food and the view was beautiful! After dinner we spent some time in the gift shop. I can't wait to go back!

Sam A Baker State Park Events for 2013. Something for all ages. Learn about wild life in it's natural surroundings. Hands on study of nature at its best. The naturist at Sam A Baker State love the beauty as much as they love what they do. Their is nothing that they would rather do than to share their love and knowledge with you. Sam A Baker is rated at the top of my list. Here is a link to the event list. http://www.piedmontchamber.com/park/Please let the folks at Sam A Baker know how much you appreciate them.

We have been going to Sam A. Baker for years. The past few have been quite skunky. This year was skunk-free. We were told they pulled 16 from under one cabin. We stayed 5 days and saw none. The water, bike trails, and open play areas are just wonderful. In less than 5 minutes on a trail one night, we saw 3 deer and one large beaver. This is my kids' favorite place! Also, the little camp store is such a help if you underpack.

My husband and i travel with 4 girls and a larger camper. We booked 7 nights at this park, and did not want to leave. Crystal clear water, beautiful clean park, and great store area close to campgrounds. FAVORITE campground for the whole family....during the day. Nighttime is a different story, we could not sit by the campfire or even be outside. The entire park is swarmed with skunks once dusk hits. We don,t mind nature at all, obviously. However, the skunks sprayed people, tents, dogs, every night. The skunk smell was so overwhelming, you could not even open camper windows. Bad, Bad, Bad skunk problem. We all would still go back, but missed the nighttime activities we enjoy at other parks and campgrounds.

The park is very well maintained. The scenery is beautiful with many deer around,It is a very peacefull place to visit and relax. The restrooms are in great shape and kept clean. You are also close to a town for any shopping you may need to do.

Where do I begin with this place. I love it! I have been going to Sam A. regularly since I was born so about 30 years (now I bring my kids) and my whole family has been going much longer. It is hard to not love this park!! It is beautiful and clean and well taken care of. Wether you want to do the long mudlick hiking trail to mulick hollow, fish, float, or swim in the clean clear water you will not be disappointed! Absolutley beautiful! I have tent camped mostly but also stay in the smallest to the biggest cabins. They have everything you would need or could expect out of a cabin. If you forget something you can get just about anything at the little on site store. As someone else mentioned bring your water shoes and a love for the outdoors and that's all you will need for a good time

Sam A Baker is a top state park in Missouri. It has numerous activitys for just about everyone in your family. The campgrounds are all well taken care of with plenty of space for any RV or tent. The shower house and bath rooms are very nice and clean. The activitys include fishing in Big Creek located just a stones throw from the campgroung of floating the St. Francious River located in the park. If hiking and biking are your ideal trip it has 2 hiking trails that are packed full of great views and shut-ins. There is a park store with just about anything you can imagine or forgot. I have visited this park numerous times and it has never disapointed me.

A very serene campgound along the river. Near major highways and easy to get to.
