Played this for the first time yesterday. They were under new management, as has been mentioned previously. They are obviously working hard to bring a neglected course back to life, and it seems to be working.Greens are decent, fairways quite good, rough very good.Bunkers still a project -- most unplayable.Nice layout -- interesting, with quite a bit of room.Definitely worth a try -- will go back to see if they're successful with the resurrection.

UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT - there was definite improvement since the last time I'd played Gateway a couple of years ago - I plan on playing again this season, as I was told to expect major improvement "on the greens" by mid-season. (Most were above-average-to-good during my recent visit - but, there were three or four that certainly deserved some attention.)

I have played many courses all over Michigan and this is by far the worst. There was no fairway to talk about because the grass was just as long as in the ruff area. No maintenance what so ever. We asked the guy in the club house and he said the maintenance machine broke down and they didn´t have the money to buy a new one...Many of the greens had big brown areas....We found a dead goose on the golf course that was disgusting...

One of the worst-maintained golf courses I have played, and I grew up playing par 3 munis. Even if they killed every goose on the course, this would still be a poopy place to play.

Gateway Golf course in Romulus MI is a great value and a fun round. I had 3 layovers in a nearby hotel and was able to walk to the course (40 min). The layout is a nice combination of short holes and a few monsters. You need to hit it straight, as there is tall fescue and water awaiting errant shots. They have a great deal for hotel guests providing free rentals by showing your hotel key. It only costs $30 with cart. The only thing lacking is a maintenance budget to truly highlight a nice design. I was able to get off without reservations and played with some fun locals twice and on my own once. Carts are recomended as there are some long green to tee transits. It is not pretentious and I found it very enjoyable as a 7 handicap. If you want a resort feel, go somewhere else, but if you want a fun round at a great value, this is it.

No clubhouse to speak of and surrounded by housing. Close to airport if you are looking for a quick round before your flight.
