You can tell that there is no money being put into the course. They are not doing anything to make one of the best courses in the state live up to its billing. To start with NO sand in bunkers, Weeds on the greens and clover overtaking the fairways. Was just disappointed with the course after hearing how great it use to be. Have played other courses in the area and you can tell the difference from those that spend money to keep you coming back.

We golfed there this past weekend. It is a beautiful layout but shows that there has not been money put into the tee boxes or greens.

It was tauted as a must play and I was very excited as this was my 1st time to play this course. However, the greens were in awful shape unless you like putting through spotty dirt greens (which mimiced the crappy practice green). Make shift driving range (which was a sign of things to come). Signs of course neglect everywhere from tee boxes to fairways to greens. The front 9 was awful, but the back 9 showed signs of improvement. Course layout was nice and I could see it had the potential of being nice, but not now. Definitely not worth the hype or price. I've played nicer $20-$30 courses than this. I recommend not wasting your time or money.

Nice course cut out of the woods...no homes here. Difficult but entertaining greens...don't go if low score is a must as the undulating greens will most likely add 5-10 strokes to your score. It's fun and unique. Shows signs of neglect at the service end of the business, clubhouse, and other areas. The roof on the maintance building is all but rotted off. Very average gas carts. High end $55 price on a Friday with slow play due to a large group outing. Try it and see if you like it.

The course is truly cut out of the forest. It's a long cart ride to the 1st tee and back from 18. The greens don't have a flat spot on them. Very challenging especially from the blue and black tees. Seemed a lil under staffed. One person to work the bag drop, pro shop, and bar area. I know it was early on a weekday but this seemed a little silly. If a large group came up, others would suffer from lack of service. There are so many good courses in the area I will likely try a different course on our next trip.

We just came back from a golf trip to Gaylord. We played this course and we played it last year too. We like the course as it's holes are very interesting, so it stays on our 'nice course to play' list--'keep it on the list' list. However, I did see signs that there might be other issues about the course. Comparing last year to this year, there seems to be far less people working there. The bag drop area was totally deserted, unlike other courses in the area. So, there was no help there. While there were staff cutting the grass, there seemed to be less attention to other parts of course maintenance, such as bunker maintenance. They seem to becoming overgrown at the edges. Gas cart was not in good shape, and when we mentioned that, it was clear that the staff there were already aware of that.

I love this course, but it is REALLY hard. There is not a flat lie or putt on this course. It is very well manicured and makes you feel like you are the only golfers on the planet, but it is a good example of Twain's comment "A good walk spoiled." if you want a good test of golf, this is your place. Otherwise, go to the putt putt course,

We finally took time to play Black Forest after passing the signs for it for years. Shouldn't have waited so long. It was raining our whole round, and we even had to take cover for about 30 minutes, but so glad we stuck it out. Every hole is a picture postcard. Hills, loads of fall-colored trees, some wetlands, and wildlife (turkeys and deer for us) made the scenery as enjoyable as the golf. This is one of those great Up North courses where you can't see one hole from another. The women/red tees get huge breaks on this course, which insulted this female golfer at first, but definitely made the round more equitable. We booked through golfnow and got a great price, but even at full fee, this is a nice place to play golf.

A long beautiful course. We golf there when ever we can.It is a long course for men, but the women actually gets some nice breaks. Many times we have had deer watch us play and have friends that have seen Black Bear in the spring. It is a challenging rolling course with some elevated tees.

Heard a lot of positive things about the course, but frankly was very disappointed. The course is extremely difficult, the greens are borderline impossible to putt and the up-keep of the fairways and tee boxes were in below-average condition. They have to keep the greens long & slow or else you would 5-6 putt every hole...more of a trick course and not an enjoyable experience. Overall opinion - the course tried a little too hard to be one of the "best spots" in Gaylord and did not succeed. I would not recommend this one...especially with so many other nice courses in the immediate area.

A great course. I've played it a few times. It's never busy, beautiful views and great condition. Paid 32 dollars. Worth double considering treetops and garland so close. Be warned its hard, the greens at time order on goofy, I shot 82 with 7 three putts, but it's a fun great course. Make a trip

Fairways and greens were in great condition, challenging for all handicaps. Nice clubhouse as well. I enjoyed the fact that the woods surounded the fairways, that made the course all the more enjoyable.

We were lucky enough to hit this course in the fall with the leaves seeming to change before our eyes. The holes are cut into the woods so hitt'em straight and be strategic...it is not always the long ball that's your best shot. Despite being fall, the course was in phenomenally good shape and well maintained.

Loved the lay out of the course. Had to be the hardest course I have played. 6688 yards from Blue Tees and a par 73.The only draw back was the leaves. Lots on the greens.

Our organizer of our trip called way in advance for our group of 14. This was the second of the 4 courses that our group would play this weekend. The rate quoted was $50 U.S. Dollars. We arrived to get no help in the bag drop area. I am ok with that, just sharing the unfriendly experience shortly after. We walk inside to pay greens fees, and the man behind the counter, I could not call him a gentleman of any sorts, says we are charging $65 U.S. Dollars !! Very agressive tone of voice. We showed him the confirmation. He said we are a rated top ten course and this is the rate. We did question it and he became very upset and said is it about the money? Now, it sure is not the money , we all are 6 figure family men that go up to the Gaylord area every year to play golf. He just kept saying top 10 guys. They were not busy at all. All other courses in the area were slammed. We now know why they are not!. No rakes on the course for the traps, no cut fairways or first cut of rough, pin placements were not regulation on 5 greens ( yes we measured) These are just a few of the huge dissapointments we experienced. Overall service just awful . Overall course rating extremely poor. You need to replace that guy at the counter. Our awful experience was 9-15-2012. Save your time and money folks. Not Good . TNBG
