This park has a large range of learning activities for all ages. Summer fun at the beach swimming, boating, and walking trails are first class with great natural beauty and wildlife. I enjoy each year the park ranger's guided pontoon ride on Black Moshannon Lake.

Even living very near to this Park I still come and walk the trails, picnic, swim or canoe. It is a very unique place and the scenery is beautiful. At most times you will find it uncrowded and serene. There is plenty of programs offered and of course overnight camping. If your are driving though the area plan a picnic here instead of stopping at a restaurant. Enjoy the beauty , you won't be disappointed.

I was with a friend who's family had reserved a grove with a grill by the beach on Black Moshannon lake. There were trails around the lake and several good scenic areas. The weather was perfect and the park was not crowded which made the day a perfect one.

recently stayed at cabin 15 at the park in one of the modern cabins, for a week. Modern cabins have kitchens and bathrooms, and showers that have some pressure! I must have hiked 50 miles of trails, golfed at Port Matilda on a beautiful course on the side of a mountain, went to a Spikes game. What a week of sheer peacefulness and pleasure with my wife and daughter. No tv, thank goodness. and you have to drive a few miles down the road to get phone service. Social media free!! and, there is a small beach, boat rentals, etc. that come with a State Park

We were delighted to find out the the site we had reserved many months ago had been converted to a full hook-up site (water/electric/sewer)!!!! In the past, their sites were only electric sites. This was a nice addition to an already nice and well-kept park!! We did visit the modern bathroom/showers and they were very clean and nice smelling! This park has a swimming beach, boating and lots of hiking trails. They have very intersting and informative educational presentations throughout the weekend as well. Something to be aware of is there is NO cell phone service around the park! We enjoyed our time away from our phones, but the teenagers didn't!

Black Moshannon was a very nice campground. It is not at all near the lake. The lake is on the small side and fishing is difficult from the shoreline. Kayakers would love it, as too, would electric motorboater. There is a beach for the kids to splash in. The campground is clean, but the roads through the campground are tight- keep an eye on your side mirrors, so you do not hurt a tree or your rig. They have a very quaint campstore and it is within walking distance. There is no bike trail. We biked on the roads (adults & teenager), with caution. Quiet place for relaxation.

Nice park tiny beach and waterway is clogged with plants making kayaking a pain. If you are in the area a nice place to relax and have a picnic lunch.

Mountain lake with interesting plants and birds. Check the Bog Trial and for a longer hike the Moss-Hanna Trail.

Fishing "Blacky" is an experience every angler should partake in. Bass fishing can be tricky if you're not familiar with the lake, but panfish, pickeral and catfish flood these waters. If you know the tricks, fishing here can be very rewarding. Having access to a boat, kayak or canoe will greatly up your chances of getting into fish. Big bull bluegill and other panfish/catfish can be caught from shore on almost every cast. The scenery at Blacky is breathtaking. There are so many things to do at the park. Hiking, bike riding, bird watching and camping are stellar. Its definitely a "Go to" park

My wife, daughter, and I spent a few days backpacking through Moshannon State Forest and decided to stop at Black Moshannon State Park for an afternoon. The state park has a very nice visitor center (including nice and helpful park rangers), a well stocked little diner / camp store, and a number of well-maintained pavilions. We did not boat, but the lake seems a nice size, and wasn't very busy. We only did a few miles of trails (Lake Loop Trail, part of the Allegheny Front Trail, Ski Slope Trail) but they were all in good shape and well worth someone's time. I would recommend stopping at Black Moshannon State Park. There isn't a great amount to do compared to some of the surrounding state parks and forests, but definitely worth a stop.

This is a family treasure for me! I still avidly travel out to kayak and canoe in these waters. As well it's a great place just to travel to and relax! I highly encourage a visit!

My husband and I came here for a weekend to get away for a bit. We stayed in Cabin 15. It was clean, cozy, and was perfect for what we wanted. We did a loop hike including all of the Moss Hanne trail...it ended up being more challenging than expected due to the snow that was still on the trail. Thank goodness for the 2 guys that picked us up on our trek back to the cabin...I don't know if we would have made it!! Hike will be fantastic in a month or so! We did see a porcupine, so that was fun! We also did some scenic driving / offroading as well. Overall we had a great time and would definitely recommend!

First I should start by saying it probably isn't a fair time of year to be doing this review. The water was algae covered and dark, yet the park features a beach area, indicating the water is likely more pristine than what we saw. Even so, the lake did offer a gorgeous view of fall colors. My wife got plenty of pictures. We started our visit at the park office to obtain a map and directions to the Lakeside Loop Trail. The lady at the counter was very helpful and wonderfully pleasant, describing the loop in detail. We still found the trail markings to be somewhat confusing, a problem we find inherent in many state parks, so here is a brief summary. The trail begins at the beach parking lot, crosses the lake via the bridge on PA504, winds on the lake side of the Environmental Learning Center, around the lake, across the bridge behind the dam, and back behind the beachhouse to the parking lots. Unfortunately we couldn't explore any of the other trails. It's unseasonably cold and snowing, and we and the dogs were definitely feeling the effects.I think we will likely visit again. Even though the trees are beautiful in fall, we will likely make a return trip in a warmer time of the year when the water is likely to be at its peak. All in all it's worth a visit for amateur hikers, advanced hikers, horseback riders or snowmobilers.

It is a beautiful park with no admission. Large swimming area and the water is very clean. Clean and well cared for washrooms. Very picturesque, very nice place to spend an hour or a day!
