Just off of I-95 (exit #100) take RT#272 north ten miles (across the Pennsylvania border into the little village of Nottingham, Pa. There you will find Herr's Potato and snack Factory. This is a great FREE tour so you can see how it is all made....And sample those "hot" chips as they come out of the oven. Great Tour and Great Place.

The tour was Wonderful and delicious!!! It was so cool to see the different rooms where they made the different types of snack foods. The tour was guided and the guide was very nice and knowledgeable. The samples of chips warm off the line were amazing. The gift shop was nice and the cafe was really good for a light lunch. It was easy to make reservations for the tour and easy to get to the factory. For a free tour it was a wonderful and yummy way to send then afternoon. If you have some time on a trip near Nottingham PA I encourage you to stop by, it was a highlight of our trip.

Hey, who doesn't love free, fun and informative? This is a real working factory. We enjoyed our narrated tour with a living breathing tour guide. She ensured that we were all safe and followed the strict rules as we walked through the factory viewing the various chips being produced. Due to the severe cold the corn chips were not being made but the informative video explained the process. The highlight for us was tasting hot off the assembly line fresh potato chips! I want some now! Complimentary bags of chips were given at the end of the tour. We walked outside to access the factory building. If it is cold, please wear a jacket. The gift shop offers oops products that are not perfect but still delicious. The prices of many items were reasonable and some items were prices at retail. Herr's posted being open Monday-Friday and closed holidays. Appointments were recommended but not required.

Well worth the 30 minute drive from Lancaster - the drive itself is very pretty if you like farms ans countrysides. We had no reservations but we were the only 2 there so we got a personal guided tour. There are ins and outs of buildings so I am not sure about handicap accessible. The store is - not sure about the tour. The tour was excellent and very informative and the hot chips right off the line were delicious - the tour guide spent time answering all the questions we had - very knowledgeable. The store at the end f the tour actually DID have discount prices. Not only did I come home knowing more about potato chips and the Herr history, but a box full of snacks to share. I will visit again!

During the tour of the factory, our guide goes right to the assembly line and pulls out some handfuls of freshly made chips and hands them out! They were still hot! They were delicious and it doesn't get any fresher than that! In my opinion that would have been enough! The tour was interesting as you get a real close up view of how some of the most popular snacks are made. The slicing, the baking, the seasoning, the packaging. Workers right there doing their job in front of you. At the end of the tour you get two free bags. Of course, they dump you right into the gift shop at the end. But how can you resist? Some of the most odd flavors of potato chips I've heard of like steak flavored or ketchup flavored. Some bags marked down to 17 cents because they were rejects in the factory. Maybe they weighed too much or too little. Who cares? Great visit and would highly recommend it.

The factory tours are very interesting and the kids will just love watching how their snacks are made. Very well organized tour and at the end of the tour the visitors center has a few souvenirs BUT it also has snacks and potato chips, etc. Oops bags that are sold at a reduced price because maybe they do not weigh the amount necessary or some other reason. Chipper (the chipmunk) is the mascot of Herr's. You are close to Lancaster County and Amish country for other side trips.

It's a wonderful free tour of the potato chip factory. If you have kids, it's not to be missed. If you're in the area between Thanksgiving and New Year's, you must go through the drive-through Christmas light display on the grounds.

The title of my review sums it up. This factory tour is free, you get to try free samples right off the assembly line and it is fun and interesting for all ages. My wife and I were here 15-20 years ago with our children and went back this time just the 2 of us. Excellent informative guide, real operating factory. Recommended for children and adults of all ages.

Educational and fun trip/ It is free and you get to try free samples at the end of the tour. Store that is attached offers deals on all sorts of snacks. Also is an opportunity to see some flavors and options that you might see in your local grocery store.

What a great place to visit (and it's free). The history of how Herr's came about was very interesting and it's refreshing to see that the Herr Family still owns and operates the factory. The tour guide was outstanding. One of the best parts was getting to eat chips that were made just 6 minutes ago. There is nothing like a warm potato chip YUM YUM but for me the best part was seeing the look on my daughters face, she was so excited and couldn't stop smiling. We are going back (we went on a Friday so we only got to see the potato chips) so we can see more of the factory and to get more goodies from the gift shop.

We have gone to the Herr's Factory tour many times, but just recently took my daughter and her friends again. It is really educational and fun. You get to see the actual factory producing the pretzels, tortilla chips, popcorn, corn chips, cheese curls and chips that we love to snack on. The smells as you do the tour are amazing. You learn the history of the company - hard working American dream come true, how many pounds of potatoes they use every day, view the packing warehouse and sample chips FRESH off the production line. They even give you sample products at the end. Reservations are suggested. There is a gift shop to purchase products. We love the seconds rack - 17 cents for snack bags of chips! YUM!

This tour is fun and informative and not to mention Free!. When family members come to visit, this is my number one destination. This being said, I have been on the tour three times and have had an excellent experience each time. You start off with a short video about Herr's and it's founder. Then you get to see pretzels, popcorn, and potato chips being made (could vary on production for the day). Best part of the tour is when the guide grabs fresh hot chips right off the line for you to sample. Then you end with a free snack bag of chips. They also have a small store where you can buy the products. Bottom line...can't wait to go again! Small tip: They may not run production everyday so you may want to call and ask before you make the drive.

we made a stop here after doing a Hershey trip and boy was it great. first of all no charge...tour lasts one hours so not very long for little kids. this is really a fun trip for ALL ages, as it was very interesting to watch the workers in action and especially when you get the warm potato chips.

Just plain fun while learning about making delicious snacks we enjoy eating. I loved watching the process of making the chips and how the flavors are added near the end of the process. Wish my sample bag had been something other than barbecue, though.
