Shade Mountain is by far my favorite Pennsylvania Winery. My wife and I visit almost every time we are back in Middleburg visiting family. The winery itself it housed in a beautifully renovated barn. It has retained many of the old barn features including wide wood floors and large wooden beams. There is a deck outside of the lower and upper areas that provide beautiful views of the vineyard and surround countryside. I'm not sure of the availability anymore, but there is also a large room in the back that can be used for events (we had our engagement party and baby shower there). There is a very large wine tasting bar where you can try one of the many award winning wines produced by Shade Mountain. The wines range from fruit wines, to ice wines, dry to sweet wines and even champagne. Our favorites include the Shade Mountain blush, Peach, Lemberger, Sauvignon Blanc, Proprietors, Three Witches (champagne) and so on. In addition to wine the also have other items to purchase including an assortment of picnic items, jams/spreads, hand painted glasses, wine accessories, etc.The great wine and nice atmosphere are accompanied by staff and owners that are extremely personable, polite and eager to strike up a conversation with you. Check out their website for discounts and special events like the pig roast and grape stomp, etc. Shade Mountain is a blast and is a gem in the heart of PA.

Shade Mountain is about an hour and a half from Harrisburg, straight out rts 11 & 15 to rt 104 towards Middleburg and is totally worth the trip. They allow 7 tastings. If you like fruit wines try the Pineapple and the Country Spiced Apple! The staff was very helpful and knowledgable. Very reasonably priced wine selection as compared to some of the other central PA wineries.

Always enjoy our visit to Middlebury and Shade Mountain. The wines are wonderful. We prefer the sweet and fruity but the variety is available. Lovely surroundings and look for their free shipping every year.

While visiting family in Middleburg, PA, we packed a picnic lunch and took a ride to the local Shade Mountain Winery & Vineyard. This is a small winery popular with the locals. It's a beautiful spot overlooking the mountains and vineyard. We sampled a variety of wines in their store before choosing one to drink with our lunch. The store carries many wines and gift items relating to wine and there is a large porch with tables and chairs to sit and enjoy the view. (You need to bring your own food or snacks) Relaxing afternoon at this beautiful spot.

I found this winery one snowy December after visiting Mifflinburg Chrikindlmarket. What a find! Have been visiting and ordering since. Try any of the wines but my favorites are the reds...Rascal Red especially. Their names and bottle presentation are fun too!

A group of 14 of us started our wine tour at Shade Mountain. They were very friendly and accommodating as well as knowledgeable. They have a lot of nice merchandise to purchase. The wines are yummy and the people are nice. Great place to visit.

We love visiting on a sunny summer afternoon and sitting on their huge deck which sits on top of a hill overlooking acres and acres of grape vineyards. It really is a gorgeous view from their deck and of course we have a bottle of their Prehistoric Peach sitting on the table in front of us. It is a great deal because they let you bring in a picnic basket of your own food to enjoy with the wine. We always make an afternoon of it with multiple bottles of wine! Shhhhhh, don’t tell anyone. We have to keep this place a secret!Another cool thing about Shade is that they are part of the Wine Trail and so they have a bunch of events with live bands throughout the year. For example during the month of March they have bands playing in their large banquet room every weekend. It’s called March Madness. We’ll be there! Check their website under events for all of their happenings. As far as their wines go they have a huge selection with very high quality. Their wines are on par with the best wineries of the Finger Lakes in NY State. We go to the wineries in NY a lot too but why drive 3 hours when you can get great wine with a view right here at Shade? And customer service…….. let’s just say we are regulars so we are treated like royalty. You won’t hear any complaints from us. A special thanks goes out to Caroline, Amy and Jenny for making everyone feel welcome.

I've visited many wineries in the entire country and Shade Mountain is exceptional. Great selection of wines with wine tasting any time of the day. Their Merlot and Cranberry Wine are my favorites. I visit everytime I come to the Valley and had the pleasure of being in the area during one of their Harvest Festivals. Awesome place to visit.

Located on a fairly rural stretch of road atop a hill, has nice views of the vinyards surrounding the winery. Popular for catered events, has a baquet/meeting room with a small deck, and the main tasting room/gift shop. All sorts of gifts for the wine lover, a fairly wide variety of wines produced on site.

Don't know what the previous reviewer meant by unwelcoming atmosphere. I've been coming here for 4 years now and everyone has been very friendly. In the past they had unlimited free tastings and I believe it was taken advantage of my some patrons. Other wineries in the area charge for tastings or have just a few kinds out for the tasting of the day. I drive 2 hours to get to Shade Mountain to get my favorite wine. (Can't tell you which one it is, they might sell out and then what would I do?) Prices are very reasonable compared to other wineries. They also sell local cheeses and grapes for planting.

upon arriving at the winery, the first thing we were told was that we were only"allowed" to taste a total of 7 different wines. that was fine, as we buy theirwine often enough to know pretty much what we wanted anyway. I think a greeting may have been appropriate when customers walk in door. we told the representative that we would be purchasing a case. while she wasnot rude, I just felt like we were annoying her. I hesitated to even ask to tryanything because there was also a sign on the wall informing customers aboutthe limit of the wine samples. (I can understand the tasting may be abused, butthere seems to be a more tactful way of stating this).when my husband and I visit a winery, I feel like it is an experience, rather thanjust in and out! I don't like feeling rushed.while the wines are wonderful and this is a beautiful facility, I don't know thatwe will return due to the coolness of the employee. wines are not a must haveand with that being said, I am saying, with some disappointment that I do not believewe will return.

I love semi sweet or semi dry wine. They have some good wines but they are all super sweet! I do enjoy the mint wine that I mix with iced tea at home!
