A fun Saturday morning can be spent at the country market. In addition to fruits and vegetables there is lots of crafts, bake goods and small town charm. A good place to buy flowers too, but don't expect to get things cheap. This is the "Ligonier" country market and we're not really farmers.

Stop to look around at what is available and pick up fresh produce such as green beans, corn, broccoli, cauliflower, raspberries, peppers and sometimes rolls and perogies.

Everything you can imagine from May through October! The early months have the most beautiful flowers, produce is plentiful in July through Septmenber. Baked goods, lots of great food, Jewelry, clothing, honey, salsa, wine, Sand Hill berries, woodworks, and many, many other crafts. One more great thing the beautiful little town of Ligonier has to offer.

We love our local farmers market and feel it's pretty splendid. We were blown away by the Country Market. Nestled at the foot of a mountain and just down Main Street from the center of Ligonier it's a large assembly of produce growers, artisans, and craftspeople. The variety of prepared foods was one of the delights and we ended up eating our mid-day meal bit by bit as we walked around and sampled things. There were pirogues, Hungarian stuffed cabbage, German sausages, Beignets, Gyros, baked goods galore, smoked meats and more prepared foods than I'm remembering. There were several vineyards, many cheese makers, lots of organic produce, orchards, and several farmers selling their locally raised meats. All were friendly and ready to chat, even on a chilly rainy morning. We just loved the market and think it's a must if you visit before October 4th.

The market is only open on Saturdays during the summer from 8:00 a.m. to 12 noon. Awesome mix of vendors - everything locally made and/or harvested. Our purchases included wine, bread, jewelry, homemade bread, calzone, pierogies, and jam. Also available were locally harvested vegetables, fruits, meats and locally made pies, cookies, sweets, gluten-free items, homemade lemonades, cupcakes, scarves, wood carvings, and crafts of all kinds. I wish the vendors at the market - when giving thought to gluten issues - would also consider diabetic friendly items. It's so easy to make baked goods with a diabetic-friendly sweetener today. As my husband and I both have sugar issues, we would've purchased a lot of goodies had they been available. We'll be back to the Market. It was an awesome find! Please note, there are only porta-potties and that the market sits in a field that has a lot of stones and rocks that makes it a bit difficult to walk if you wear the wrong shoes.

Stopped by the market not knowing what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised. There were a great mix of vendors offering a variety of items ranging from plants, wines, gourmet coffee, perogies , produce and so much more. My wife who has celiac was especially happy to find vendors who specialize in gluten free products. Well worth a visit.
