An outstanding collection of Columbus-associated artifacts in a most unexpected and intimate setting, explained by docents.

While visiting the area, we were told about this place - even some of the locals are not aware of this place. The house and it's history was fascinating, the exhibits are very special - but the contents of the chapel and the 'storage' units were incredible. If you enjoy history and want to be excited by a museum then visit this place. Well worth the journey.

Home for me has been just a few miles from Boalsburg and Boal Mansion and the Columbus Chapel for most of my life. I have enjoyed many plays at Boal Barn, right next to the mansion. But I had no clue what treasures were just a few steps away. The Boal family connections are far flung and touch a wide swath of history. The collections in the mansion and the chapel go back to before the time of Moses! The history lessons to be learned touch significant local history, US history, European history, Christian history and Egyptian history, just for starters! The history buff would need days to study all the artifacts displayed. The hour of the tour just skims the surface. One of the most amazing things about the site is that a direct descendant of the original builder is still resident in the home and involved in preserving the site. The museum and chapel are not only unique in Central Pennsylvania, but in the United States and possibly the world! Well worth a visit -- or many visits!

This little place is chock full of history. It's an incredible collection of centuries of memorabilia. Highlight was the Columbus chapel, housing Christopher Columbus' admiral's desk! We only hope that upkeep improves. Most of the items are completely irreplaceable, but are not afforded the best protection.

I didn't see too many reviews about this place so we almost didn't go. I thought it would be a big hoax and a waste of time. Boy was I wrong. A very nice tour guide showed us around the house and told us about the family background. Amazing. It was interesting and very informative. The articles on display were beautiful. I can't say it compares to Monticello, however it is still a great piece of American history and well worth the time.

Many unusual items relating to Columbus. Boalsburg is full of great history!! The Boal Mansion has many original artifacts relating to the Boal family and other historical figures

Paul from western PAMy family and I have been there and enjoyed this "piece of hiatory." Weare fortunate to have such a rare and historic bit of the past so well preserved. Old? Of course it is, but I should hope you lookas well when you are that age. Disapointed? Well if the cost is a dissapointment, so be it. You can't expect to keep things preserved without costs for upkeep and preservation, humidity and temperature control. Truly some folks just don't understand what is involved in preserving the past. We've got something here in Central PA that NO ONEelse has. It's real, it's authentic. It's a treasure many documents of which have yet to be translated. We are indeed fortunate to have such a "gift" to our area. The cost seems small when you realize thst you cannot see this anywhere else in the world. Treasure your past and let it guide you to a new and brighter future. We have much to learn and so little time.Visited many times.

the church is in need of repair seems as if the caretakers forgot it was on the property

Very much enjoyed this little gem. Worth stopping by for an hour and a half tour. The items belonging to Christopher Columbus were amazing to see and also the authenticated two small pieces of the cross of Jesus. Lots of history in the chapel and the mansion and two outer buildings. Tour guide Josephine did a great job explaining the history of the items contained in the mansion.

The advertisements for this attraction did not advertise the cost for the tour. Many local people had told our group that the tour was free. We quickly found out that there is a $10 fee.
