We stopped by the visitor's center for a camping recommendation and then decided to go thru the attached museum. What a nice surprise. Very well put together museum, very informative. Hoping to come back soon with a veteran!

When first walking in the door the museum doesn't look like it has much, but then I realized there was an entire basement, too, and that was the best part.I appreciated the even-handedness of their descriptions, telling history like it was. Their explanations of historic events and times were clear, informative, and concise. I also liked that they had some items on display that most similar museums don't have. There was quite a lot to see so spending a few hours there was easy. The turnoff from the highway is very near the Fairlawn Mansion and whaleback ship Meteor.

Excellent museum featuring our wartime hero's in action. Filled with artifacts and memorabilia, all with descriptions provided to educate. Features a real WWII P-38 fighter plane like fighting ace Richard I. Bong flew. If in the area you must stop.

This was especially interesting for my husband as he was in the Navy. Great displays, video, information plaques.

This is a great little museum dedicated mostly to WWII. Local hero Richard Bong was primarily in the Pacific, but the museum also covers the European war, and has some info about the Duluth/Superior home front, as well as a bit about Korea, Viet Nam and the Cold War.The centerpiece is a restored P38 Lightening painted like one Bong flew in (visit the museum to find out what happened to the original, and Bong himself). Many other items, both Axis and Allied, on exhibit, including a Merlin engine raised from the English Channel.This museum is well worth a couple of hours of your time, if you have any interest in history and WWII.

This museum did a great job showing the sacrifices made by WWII veterans and their families. The accomplishments made by Richard Bong during his young life made me think of how lucky my own children are.The museum also has information about other wars, but WWII is the centerpiece, as it should be. There are many great videos, and I particularly enjoyed the video showing Russia's involvement in the war - it was interesting considering Russia's latest mis-steps.Thank you to the helpful veterans who greeted us and helped us understand the displays.This museum should be a must-see for all school children in the area.

This museum is kind of a sleeper. It's not the biggest museum and the center is just one airplane, but the presentation is phenomenal. Everything we saw (a few trucks, bicycles, motor cycles, airplane) was beautifully restored. The museum is well laid out and is full of information. The introductory movie is good. I learned a lot at the museum. The airplane is set in an island setting with scenery and sand. Lots of memorabilia and stories of local veterans.It may be small, but it's one of the best museums I've ever been in.

We are not fans of Superior, WI. We've had some unpleasant run ins with locals and we have not had very good hotel stays or customer service at shopping centers. We would however stop again to revisit this little gem and that speaks VOLUMES!My Husband was a History major so we have stopped at countless (and I mean COUNTLESS) museums in our short 10 months of marriage alone. The Richard I. Bong World War II Heritage Center has been one of the most impressive that we have seen. When you first arrive you are greeted by actual Veterans waiting to share their stories and thoughts with you. It is only $9.00 for adult admission and you begin with a short film that was very well chosen and informative. Upon completion of the film you are able to explore the displays at your leisure. The collection on display is quite impressive and very well laid out. There are clear labels and informative descriptions on everything They have a wide variety of delivery methods available with written information, media displays as well as interactive exhibits to enjoy and at the center of it all they have Richard I. Bong's plane beautifully refinished and on display. If you are in the area I highly recommend that you spend some time here. Its great for people of all ages and for friends, couples, families and I'm sure it is even fun to explore solo.

A must see when in the area! No excuses should be made. The volunteers here were great. The information was so though and heart-ful. Respect the past and those that gave so much to bring Freedom to you! Take time to discuss the displays with your children... they deserve to know our history. Very well down! Clean, safe place to praise those who are and served our country.

This place is one of the best museums ever, I feel so grateful for the sacrifices of our soldiers and so grateful that the Bong family has given us this Heritage Center. Second visit but will not be our last one by any means!

It was a nice small museum, took about an hour and fifteen minutes. A little on the pricy side, but we enjoyed seeing some history of Richard Bong including airplanes and the stories of the area during World War II.

This originally was our second choice to go to, but was glad we went. The exhibits are really well done and the video is fantastic! Well worth the $9 admission fee!

The museum is more that a tribute to America's most successful flying ace. It's also a salute to all our servicemen and women as well as to civilians back home whose work supported them. Interesting videos, artifacts and displays engage visitors so well that they'll probably find themselves staying longer than they had planned.

Unexpected good WWII museum. Quite a lot of memoriabilia with a personal touch. There were also a couple of films that were very interesting.

There was a lot of stuff here. I was able to see it all in the short time I had. I just did not get to enjoy it as I was pressed for time. I am a fan of airplanes especially WWII. I have seen a lot of WWII planes, even cleaned several, but never seen the P-38 so I mainly wanted to see the P-38 and learn more about our number one Ace which I did. I ran into a lady whose father was honored there the day before as a flyer. She had a lot of good information. She was touring the Center as I was.
