If you are passing through town, or needing breakfast/lunch before visiting Frank L. Wright/APT, this is a little gem worth checking out. Don't let the rickety steps fool you- there is high quality stuff within.The menu features some tasty organic and vegan options, but also great sausage and eggs. Pancakes are delicious. Nice sandwiches/quiche at lunch. Outdoor seating available, or on the 4 season porch is a fun option, too. This place has kitchen staff only. You order your own food, pick up your own silverware, water, coffee, and find a table. When you place your order, they give you a flag, which you plant on your table, so the kitchen can bring you your order. You also clear your own plates at the end, and pay at the register in the store portion of the building.They sell a variety of things in the store- local cheese and drinks in the cooler, jewelry and women's clothing items- artisan/unique stuff. There's organic/animal friendly soaps and lotions, educational toys, some gourmet groceries, greeting cards, and funny gifts. My daughter and I usually do a little shopping while we wait for our food. I'm not sure about the basement- they used to have antiques there, but can't say for sure now. Might just be extra seating.If you are in Spring Green, check it out. Breakfast might only be on weekends- call ahead.

This is a very unique restaurant and gift shop. It is extremely casual. You place your order at the counter from a relatively limited menu, but there are always specials. Food for the most part is very good especially the chili which is outstanding.

This adorable shop has an eclectic array of goodies for those of us who love to shop everywhere we go! So fun and cute.

Good food. Not the most friendly with young children. I was told to close the door. (I was the last in our group to enter and did not know they were using the main door in addition to the screen door.) There are a lot of little signs telling you what to do.

...is talking about an entirely different town and store. I've lived in S.G. since 1998 (with my husband and son) and frequent the General store all of the time. My husband and I play music occasionally there as well. We love the place! It's actually one of the reasons we moved to Spring Green. We took the leap and are still here 16 years later.

This small restaurant occupies half of store that sells giftware, toys, candy, snacks, cheese sodas and many other things. It is located in a small town of 1625 residents off small highway Rt 23. . Not knowing what to expect we ordered lunch here;' a chicken salad sandwich and a quiche w salad. Both were surprisingly good; tasty, made with organic foods and using a bit of creativity.The place is clean but not fancy. Seating is self service. The prices are reasonable and they offer both indoor and outdoor seating areas. For a small family owned restaurant we could not have expected more.

You are on vacation. Relax and enjoy a different place and a different pace. I always have either breakfast or lunch here when in the area so I can read, people watch, and just slow down. It is fun to take several hours to browse the shops across the street as well.

The General Store sums up the essence if all that's wonderful about Spring Green. It takes you back to a different time, but not in a hokey or touristy way. Good food, and a nice assortment of clothing, jewelry, etc.

I was inspired to write my own review of the fantastic Spring Green General Store after reading the review entitled "Think before you leap," seeing as it stuck in my craw. Yes, Spring Green is a town full of a bunch of left wing, tree hugging, veggie eating, modern day hippies, who, I might add, are some of the friendliest people you'll ever meet.  I, too, am a heterosexual woman who has been to The General Store many times on vacation with my boyfriend (who is --gasp!-- a heterosexual male), and we have been welcomed with nothing but warm smiles & kind regards.  In fact, a few times patrons have struck up conversations with us out of nowhere.--Ohhh, the malevolence!Waiting twenty minutes for your food is the norm at the General Store because everything is made fresh, NOT because you're a conservative surrounded by liberals who somehow *magically sense* you're a conservative and therefore want to punish you by making you wait for your food. Oh, and they don't exactly valet park the cars, so I don't see how anyone in the joint would even know you're driving an SUV and not a Prius.So, in regards to the "Think before you leap" review, I believe you understand where the hostility is truly coming from. Now, without any further ado, let me brag about The General Store.I adore this place.  The vibe is homestyle yet funky.  The staff is friendly, the gift shop is kitschy, and the food is delish.  I also like that you bus your own table after you finish eating.  It's refreshing to have a communal dining experience & do your part to keep up the place.  But perhpas that's just the hostile liberal in me talking.

I found this place on trip advisor, read the reviews took the leap with my family. Sure, there are some cute little pickle band aids, a couple different games, a nice selection of womens clothing to shop for, however... a pancake, 2 waffles and a egg muffin and 4 drinks were $50. OK OK, we're on vacation, lets just enjoy ourselves.... the longer we sat (about 20 minutes) the more and more we realized that we were TOTALLY in a shall we say "hostile environment". Without being rude, I'm just going to say that I felt very strange being there with my husband. Why's that? My husband is a man, I am a woman and we were driving an SUV not a Prius. I think you get it.

Interesting store with eco friendly gifts. This is a great shop for unusual finds. They have wonderful lunches and great weekend breakfasts. Expect to wait a little for the food but it is worth it. Friendly helpful staff. The front porch is a wonderful local for eating. They also have a great clothing section.

We enjoyed our meals & all was good. I had the quiché that had Wisconsin cheese, sliced onions & red peppers baked into it. I told the lady at the counter how good it was. She said their chef made it during the week. They don't have french fries or any of that kind of fanfare. Iron Kettle potato chips were a fav. Would go back again if ever in the area.

A great place to eat--the *only* good cup of coffee in Spring Green, and lots of vegetarian selections. Favorites include--the vegetarian chili (try the "deluxe"), the tuna salad, the hummus platter, and the Indian lunches offered every other Thursday. On the weekends come early for breakfast--it's crowded after 10! We always look forward to our visits!

We had lunch at the Spring Green General Store Cafe. The food was excellent, there were several vegetarian selections, the service was freindly, and we were able to eat out on their front porch on a beautiful day.
