Being just a mile from the park, we have a gem right at our finger tips. Whether you like to walk, hike or run, the winding trails take you past the lake, campsites, Red Bird, and maybe if your lucky you will see a wedding in the cliffs. Lake Winnebago is dotted with sail boats, fisherman, along with families having a picnic along the shoreline.

Great little park, all the family campsites are in the deep piney woods - we had to keep the lights on during the day in the camper. Bit of a mosquito problem in early September, but the cleared out the last few days of our stay when the temps dropped into the upper 30's and lower 40's at night. Wood is very expensive at their little shop - but they restrict where you can bring wood from, so you don't have much choice if you want a fire. Most sites are close to a water spigot, with plentiful vault toilets throughout the campgrounds, unfortunately you cannot attach a hose to them to refill your tanks if you need - for that you have to go all the way out to the dump station where they have potable water with a hose bib. Lucky I had a 5-gallon water can - were were there a week and needed to add to the tank a bit. Only 1 shower room, located right at the entrance to the wooded camp area - can be quite a walk from some campsites, and it is not heated. There is warmish water - and unlike other state parks, you don't need to feed quarters into it -- just keep pushing the button. Lots of well used hiking and biking trails throughout the park. We'd happily visit again. It's quite a drive out to any restaurants, except for the country club which is just outside the entrance - but like many other parts of Wisconsin - you may have to hunt around to find things open after Labor Day.

Has a little bit of everything - good scenic views, a lot of nice hikes, some history, and the calm waters !! An ideal sunset spot on clear evenings. Good to spend about 4-5 hours.

Very little vegetation separating the campsites, lots of loud campers. The trails were decent, I like the grab your own firewood. all in all, it was alright, just not sure I would drive a great distance (we drove from Minneapolis) to visit again.

We got there at 16:30 and had approx. two hours to spend. There was plenty of parking and the place is clean and well maintained. First we went up the tower which is approx 45 feet and the view is scenic. After that we went on to hike part of the "red bird" trail. The kids had a good time and so did we.If someone would have wanted to spend a whole day over there I guess he could do the complete trail and also hang by the beach. We will return if we happen to be in the neighborhood.

We have always camped in Wisconsin State Parks. High Cliff is a beautiful state park with wonderful hiking trails. The rock formations and old growth forest are breathtaking. The lime kiln ruins are interesting. The campground was nice and peaceful, the grounds were kept up nice, the bathrooms were clean, and the staff was courteous. Our only adverse moments were being pestered by marauding raccoons every night. Since we are used to dealing with them when camping, we had our food secured. But being approached by a completely fearless raccoon or having babies marching around your camper like a little determined army can be slightly unnerving. I would definitely recommend this campground.

What do you do on your way home from Door County, when you'd like to get in just one more hike? My husband had seen the sign for High Cliff State Park while returning from business in the Green Bay area. As it was on our way home, we decided to pick up some sandwiches, enjoy a picnic lunch, and take a hike along the escarpment trail overlooking Lake Winnebago. What a great decision! After enjoying lunch, we sadled up (leashed) our dogs and headed toward the Chief Red Bird trail. The trail is fairly well groomed, although, following the abundance of rain the previous week, there were plenty of muddy stretches to traverse around. A little mud never hurt anyone! We enjoyed the trail which is about 3+ miles, round trip. On the trail, you can get views of Lake Winnebago, the beautiful escarpments that line the trail, and you enjoy walking on nature's pavement (limestone). Although it was a quite humid day in the mid-70's, we encountered no bugs. There are several benches on which one can rest and enjoy views of Lake WInnebago. In addition to other hikers, visitors were enjoying biking on the trail. The park has a pavilion that one can rest, along with restrooms and picnic areas. There is an interesting statue of Chief Red Bird at the beginning of the Chief Red Bird trail, and it includes historical information. There are other parts of the park that we didn't explore, including the marina. Getting to the park includes an interesting (and unexpected) route through a residential area. Looking for a walk in the park? Head to High Cliff State Park for a wonderful outdoor experience!

Was at the park for a triathlon my son was doing. We had plenty of free time so got to explore the park. The beach area was really nice, good bath house and restrooms. The boat landing was very nice, plenty of room for the big boats used on the lake. Nice hiking trails and really nice views.

This was my first trip to High Cliff State Park for my nephew's wedding. The festivities stretched out over two days and could not have been more perfect. As a photographer doing photos was a joy, there is not a bad shot in the whole place! This place is for everyone that loves the outdoors, trails for hiking, biking and the big beautiful lake for boating and water lovers. I highly recommend this beautiful place!

High Cliff State Park has many opportunities to enjoy fresh air and beautiful scenery. With plenty of trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding (with your own horse) in the summer; cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and hiking in the winter, there's always something to do. The scenery is awesome, overlooking Lake Winnebago and the Fox Valley. Park staff are very friendly. Its one of my favorite places to be!

Literally a highlight from my visit to the beautiful Heigh Cliff State Park was the view from the tower. Someone has been carving there in the railing the words: "Who needs power when we've got a tower" and I can agree on that totally. Beautiful Autumn colors. Despite the shutdown this park was open when I was there in the beginning of October 2013. Only minor complaint is that the bathrooms were all locked :S The park is great for a picnic at the shore of Lake Winebago and walking the various trails. The ruins of the Kilney are a historical monument but even more the statue of Red Bird, chief of the Winnebago's. I definitely want to go again to this place.

This was our 1st visit to the park and this will not be our last. Enjoyed the hiking trails and the many views. It is a nice park with a lot to offer and see. The kids enjoyed all the grasshoppers along one of the trails. This state park does offer camping; which I would like to check out. Most of the campsites we drove past looked spread apart from each other.

Had a non-electric site for tent camping for the weekend. It was very relaxing and quiet. The only drawback is that the campgrounds are quite a distance from the swimming beach. We didn't have an issue with it, but it may be an issue for many people. Dogs are allowed in the campground and hiking trails, but are not allowed on the swimming beach. We do not have young children; however, it is good to note that there aren't any ranger activities for children during the week, just the weekend.

We were not thrilled with this park. The signage is horrible and when you enter for the first time you have no idea where you are going. We started on top of the escarment on the Indian Buial Mound trail. The mounds are no higher than about three feet high, and the signage is poor. We then went to the lime kiln trail. Unlike most trails where the 'view is at the end or halfway through, here the view - the lime kilns is right at the beginning. It's not very exciting, and the escarpment, which is above, is hidden from view because of all the trees. Then we learned that a good part of the escarpment was mined away. Skip this park and go to Door County. There is a viewing tower.

The Park and Campground are nice. The restrooms need modernizing. It rained and the Campground was flooded. We have a pop-up but tenters had to leave. Observation tower area was nice for a picnic. No weekday ranger events. Beach was disgusting and closed the day we wanted to go there. Garbage dumpsters overflowing. Picnic table was broken and fire ring small. We love WI State Parks but probably will not go back to this one.
