My husband and I were in Oconomowoc for a short visit and decided to walk around Fowler Lake. The first day we walked counterclockwise from downtown and ended up at a couple of dead ends because we expected the route to be closer to the lake. The second day we went clockwise from downtown, using the pamphlet from the Chamber of Commerce to keep us on track and to learn about historic homes along the way. It was too cold to sit on the benches overlooking the lake but we can imagine that they would be ideal during another season. The route appeared to be popular with locals who were walking, jogging, or pushing strollers.

Grab a friend and stop at the Chamber of Commerce for the pamphlet that describes all of the wonderfully historic homes on the walk. Next, head over to Whelan's for a coffee and begin your journey around the lake. The walk is just about two miles in length. Stop and rest on any of the benches overlooking the lake. If it is sunset you may be able to capture some beautiful pictures overlooing the lake. Take a stroll through the gardens at the Zion Episcopal Chuch. It's a beautiful, meditative location open to everyone. Enter through the gates that say "welcome."If you bring your kids, stop at Fowler Park to play. If not, take a stroll through the park anyway.Don't forget to stop for lunch or a beef stick at the Sausage Haus and have a picnic in the park. What a wonderful way to spend the day :)

easy to find a parking place. some beautiful homes to see.it is an easy pleasant walk. The real bonus is a store called the sausage haus. Will put it in restaurants.

I regularly walk around this lake (it is less than 2 miles around), typically with a cup of coffee from Roots in hand. The views are fantastic, especially at sunset when you are between Fowler Lake and Lac La Belle.

Great family Lake. Lived on it for 10 years. Great fishing if you know the spots. Produces large musky for a small lake. Not crowded for family enjoyment. Great 4th of July Fire Works Show.

I attend the Oconomowoc Art Fair nearly every year with friends. Not only is this one of the best art fairs in the area, the setting is outstanding on Fowler Lake. Playground for kids; flush toilets; grandstand for bands and musicians and poetry readings; well-groomed grounds; fresh breeze off the lake...and of course, plenty of room for a nice long stroll among many booths with interesting and beautiful artwork.

There is a wonderful playground for kids to play on but make sure to watch the little ones. The lake is right down a small but very steep hill and there is no warning such as a sign or a fence- curious little ones could easuly tumble down the hill and into the water. Every August the Art Festival is held at this park and it is lovely. One of the most beautiful back drops you can imagine. This lake is small enough to walk around in about an hour and there is sidewalk all the way around. We often take our dog around and it's not uncommon to meet friends along the walk. I never get tired of the view.

This lake is convenient but really small, really weedy, fishing is average at best. Yes there are big game fish in there but not enough to write home about. The pan fish are dinks and not worth fishing for. For boating forget it. Way too small to really enjoy. Perfect for a canoe or paddle boat.

Nice shoreline for swimming in Fowler Park. Fishing is ok for younger children. Personally have had many wonderful outings here!

Community favorite for walking. 1.75 miles around. Right downtown. Many restaurants/bars for a refreshment or bite to eat. Coffee shop and two bars bordering the lake frequently have music in early evening.

Don't know that I'd be doing my duty as a citizen of Oconomowoc with saying a bit about Fowler Lake. After all, we are called lake country for a reason. Sitting directly in downtown, it is boat and beach accessible, and has Fowler Park immediately on it's shores. It's also very well known by local and area walkers/joggers. It has perfect places to sit on four sides (two small sitting areas opposite one another, and fowler park and the boardwalk across from one another). I have been fortunate to have lived on it's shore and now live within sight of it and the park. Beach access is at fowler park, boat access near the boardwalk, though both may be more properly enjoyed at the adjoining Lac La Belle, both for it's larger size and sand beaches. Again it's real call is the perfect walk around, roughly about two miles; a good distance for a casual walk, or easily multiplied for joggers or runners. The walk features great views both of the lake itself, and of the many beautiful homes and buildings on it's shores. It's a really very bug-free summer pastime, and is a stones throw from downtown's pubs and restaurants if your hungry. The park and board walk both have great places to fish and lounge, and a playground and shelter for the kids and for picnics. In the end, just come on out and try it, whether it be fishing, a summer walk, playing with the family or swimming, I promise a fun summer day here.Tip- for the walk, I suggest dusk... The sunsets really are picturesque from Norwegian bridge, and on many Thursday's in summer, free movies are shown on a big inflatable screen in Fowler Park!

The route around Fowler Lake takes you through some of the great older neighborhoods in Oconomowoc, and also right through downtown. It's an easy walk, and should take you under an hour. Enjoy it!
