Hi All; The plan was to simply take back-roads, ending-up in Montello, then heading West to end-up in the beautiful Lake Wisconsin area before heading home. Well, because I had to go 'potty', I ended-up having a wonderful lunch of Beef-tips-n-noodles with Mr. Flickner-n-company...And because I had to 'piddle', hours later ~ I ended-up at the scene of a 4-vehicle, 5 person plunge into the Wisconsin River by an ATV and 3 snowmobiles! But, I digress...Let me explain. Heading North-ish on the great V-65 Magna, I realized that I should think about stopping to see Mr. Flickner and friends in Wyocena because I might need a bathroom. It was just before lunch so I was graciously invited to dine with them for the $3.50 cost of their company ~ And, an excellent dinning experience. I then took-off toward Pardeeville and the 'Rustic Roads' that travel North toward Montello, 20 miles away, (Starting with a left onto 'School Rd.'). Came into Montello on Co. F, got coffee and took some pictures of Granite Falls before heading West on Co. C, along Buffalo Lake, pleasantly landing me in Packwaukee, taking a couple more pictures. Co. A to Oxford and a left onto Hwy. 82 With only 'spotty' ice conditions on the roads, I was able to 'kick-er-up-a-notch' while passing a glob-a cars-n-trucks on Hwy. 82, which is always fun. Left onto Hwy. 13 took me to the Wis. Dells 'River Rd.', (Think 'Tallmadge's Indian Museum') where I found 'The Forgotten Road'...There must be some rule that that 5 mile stretch isn't allowed to be plowed or cleaned!..That-there was a 'trick'! Anyway, stopped at River Park in the upper Dells to adjust myself and knock the snow off my boots. Took some more pictures and headed South on Co. O, toward Portage, stopping at the 'Lower Dells Boat Launch' which was the beginning of many fabulous adventures in my life. We used to canoe from that point, down to Sunset Point in Portage which took about 2/3 of a day. And, we used to water-ski from Portage, up past the launch, all the way to the Wisconsin River Dam in the Dells. Then, we'd ski back down, all the way to the Prairie du Sac dam at the base of Lake Wisconsin, which has to be 30 miles, anyway!...A lot of great memories 'wobble' through my brain when I'm at that spot. Off to Portage, going past our old farmette and Wally Monte's land that still-is hundreds of acres of wooded nature stretching along the Wisc. River. Again...Tons of memories of horse-back and XC skiing adventures, passed. Shot through Portage, along the river and onto Co. U, the perfect rolling-hill, back-road to take me to Merrimac ~ Where, just by chance, I happened to stop to 'piddle' at the Merrimac Park, by the railroad bridge. Mr. Flickner had mentioned reading about an ATV and 3 snowmobiles falling through the ice!...I didn't realize it, at the time, but I was standing 'right where it happened'! I read the same story in the paper, today! With the Ferry out for the season, I took Hwy. 78 South toward Sauk City. Exploded away from some 'truckster' who apparently didn't think I should have passed him after we both passed a slower car...Five seconds later, it was all irrelevant, 'cause I was gone.' Blasted to Lodi, as dark was setting-in. Gassed-up at my Kwik-Trip friends (no rain this time) and headed onto Hwy. 60, toward the Interstate where, after getting my adrenaline aroused by different 'rocket-boys', me-n-the-Old Boy proceeded to squelch any dreams by the 'speedy-folk' that 85 or 90 was going to win them any checkered flags in this race...Huge Fun! Got home to a darling little waggy-tailed girl, (Willow), took a short walk and watched, in amazement, at how her little nose can find a treat after I toss it and say, "Go find it!" Rolled my 'Great Friend' into the garage and began to prepare this report for you. Hope you enjoy it. Your Pal...Bill
