While our visit was specifically to see Mineral Point and the area, this museum would be worth a side trip. Very informative display cases professionally organized. Many old pictures and artifacts with descriptions and explanations. Recreated in the museum are a dispatcher's office and a station masters office. Vintage maps provide insights to how the area used to look. A working model railroad layout and static diorama bring it all to life. The layout isn't just a collection of trains on some tracks, but an actual scale depiction of the town as per original maps, photographs, and books. This museum will appeal to people who like history or trains.

This museum has a beautiful restored stone depot of the 1850's with an excellent display of artifacts representing Mineral Point and it's railroad and mining heritage. The staff is very personable and willing and able to discuss the exhibits and museum at any interest level. Like the entire community of Mineral Point, this museum is well worth the visit.

The Mineral Point Railroad Museum is housed in the old stone depot. The tracks were pulled up long ago to create a pleasant bike trail and the roundhouse is now a parking lot. The people of Mineral Point donated artifacts, photographs, and family histories to this well-kept, orderly, and informative place. It's nicely painted and organized inside and includes such interesting things as two sets of "flimsies," the long poles used to deliver train orders by hand. Although it's small, I'd plan to stay for at least an hour if you are one of the people who enjoys reading all the information provided.

They've done a wonderful job of restoring the old Mineral Point Railroad Building. If you like trains, there are some nice displays there and lots of historical information about the railroad. I remember riding the train from there on a field trip in first grade. In fact, our class picture in front of the train is in the museum. Great memories!

Items on display were impressive. First hand account stories displayed there were top-notch.

It takes about 20 minutes. Great information and close to some good dining too.

This is a well thought out collection of railroad artifacts and history of the railroad in and around southwestern Wisconsin. According to the display this is the oldest depot in WI and one of the few surviving pre-civil war deposts. We enjoyed seeing the pictures, maps, artifacts and copy about the railroad. My granfather worked for the Milwaukee Rd and I was excited to see a display on the top floor about the MRR. There is also an awesome model railroad depot with a farm, downtown, factory and even hobos and deer in the woods surrounding the train depot. It is very well organized. And of course the choo choo goes round and round. I would check to see the hours as they change by month/season. If you like RR's this is a good place to stop. There is a small entrance fee.
