We canoed the middle reaches of the Brule twice. Both trips were awesome in all respects. There was solitude galore as we paddled under a tunnel of pines and balsam. The water was crystal clear showcasing schools of trout. We encountered a bear foraging near the streambank as a flotilla of 20 hatchling Mergansers floated peacefully by.....like a scene from a wilderness documentary. Rangers stopped us once, inspecting our gear for glass bottles which are prohibited. This was a very restful canoe trip with riffles, rapids, and chutes, action and solitude in the forest primeval.

We pulled into here just for an overnight. It is a pick you spot self pay. Nice and clean and quiet! There is river access - we did not have time to check it out but would definitely stay here again.Table provide - campfire ring. Ranger stopped by - very pleasant.

Incredible trip, lots of family fun and adventure. Takes a bit of skill to stay dry. Worth the effort.

The scenery here is beyond belief - beautiful - year round.I am a transplant from the Twin Cities, MN and I can say that every where I look I see God's country.

I am a fan of the Namakagon river and have only canoed/kayaked/tubed on that river but being in the Barnes area we did a 4 hour canoe trip on the Brule. We got on the river at 2:30 and made it off the river around 7. We were doing a lazy trip and stopped to make lunch. We also got caught in the middle of huge thunderstorm which made it interesting to be in the middle of nature while mother nature was giving us a good show. It was very neat. My new goal in life is to own a house on the Brule River. The houses were amazing and the people that live on the river really take good care of the river and the land. It was a great sight seeing trip. It was a great way to spend a summer day and we came out with lots of stories.I don't remember the name of the company we rented from in Brule, they were decent, a little pretentious and you could tell they judged us by the way that we looked although you should never judge a book by it's cover and most of us are avid outdoors people. But we had fun despite their wary looks! I intend on doing this again next summer!
