I drive an hour each way to hit this place up every time I come to Milwaukee. The variety of cheese will blow your mind. They are always so friendly and helpful. Absolutely everything tastes amazing. Some favorite of mine are the Mango Fire cheddar, 10 year aged white, and the harvati dill

My favorite cheese place in a state filled with cheese places. Where else can you buy 16 year old cheddar - or 14 - or 12 - or 10? Wow. Their string cheese has no equal. Most other string cheeses taste like extruded plastic. Cedar Valley has a string cheese that must be tried. Fun specialties include bacon cheddar, and salami cheddar. Yum. They have a variety of cheese spreads that can be sampled. All are good. They even offer some nice wines to go with your cheese. Big plus is that they are open 7 days a week. Most cheese factories have limited hours on the weekend. This place is smart and stays open to 6 pm Saturday and Sunday. About a 40 minute drive from downtown Milwaukee.

Cedar Valley Cheese has become our go-to stop for authentic Wisconsin mozzarella string cheese. Unlike the plasticky stuff that you get at the supermarket, Cedar Valley's product is rich, thick, and satisfyingly strand-like when you peel it lengthwise. They have a fantastic variety of other cheeses as well--lots to taste-test here--along with all sorts of other gourmet food items like smoked salmon, beef sticks, crackers, maple syrup, soup mixes, and seasonings. A larger area in the back offers Wisconsin wines and regional gift items including the biggest variety of spongy "cheesehead" hats and accessories that I've ever seen. They also serve ice cream by the scoop and, recently, have added sandwiches to the menu. A quintessential Wisconsin tourist gift shop--kitschy, yes, but the cheese stands alone.
