We spent about an hour here waiting for our hotel check in. There was no entry fee but they do accept donations, which we provided. The clerk was friendly and took our coats. The exhibit that we saw was local artists and not much we found interest in, but it was a nice way to spend an hour and I believe they change the exhibits frequently.

You could go through an exhibit in 10 min even if you read all of the accompanying literature. The exterior architecture attracts but the interior is quite boring. There is no parking with the building so you have to find an open meter on the street and at certain times you will have a good walk. So, plan on walking the downtown to do other things if there is a particular exhibit you want to see.

This museum is worth the stop and the parking fee in the ramp or on the street. It has a beautiful layout, has wonderful exhibits, and is wonderfully lit.I always enjoy stopping in, taking my time viewing the artwork, and just relaxing within the walls of this museum. They also have wonderful events to attend.

We took our grandchildren to see the Dr. Seuss expedition and it was worth every penny--staff was very helpful and professional-- we spent an hour looking at the pictures and other displays--highly recommend for all ages--

The museum has a very minimal permanent collection haphazardly displayed on the 3rd floor accessible only by leaving the main atrium special exhibit area, taking the elevator up 2 floors, and later ringing a door bell to get back into the atrium. The atrium holds traveling exhibits, currently original artwork, lithographs, early ad copy and sculptures by Theodore Geisel (Dr Seuss) are on display. They were wonderful. Research what's on display before going since it changes several times annualy

We took our grandchildren to the Dr Suess at the Trout Museum of Art in August 2014. Our 6 year old grandson and the grandparents enjoyed it very much. The exhibit was a little advanced for our 3 year old granddaughter. We enjoyed walking through the exhibits with Ian telling us which character was which. The museum was well laid out with an open plan. The staff was very courteous and helpful. The admission cost was very reasonable.

Worth checking out. It is small, but they have excellent exhibits, and also live jazz for a few months every year. They also have art classes for the public. An important part of the community here.

This is a True Art Museum with classic showings. A great place to go on a rainy or snowy day and enjoy some fine art. Get going already!

The Trout Collection was given to the Appleton Art Center in 2010. It had been assembled over forty years over 150 pieces of art representing over 400 years of art history was by Dr. Monroe E. Trout and his wife Sandra (an Appleton native.) Along with the art collection, a $1 million endowment was given to preserve, protect and promote the collection. When the Trouts made their generous donation, the Appleton Art Center became the Trout Museum of Art. This magnanimous gift brought more depth to what was already a vibrant art community in the area. For years one of the favorite yearly events has been Art at the Park, a free community event that has occurred the last Sunday of July for the past 53 years. In addition to visiting artists exhibiting and selling artwork amidst the majestic trees of Appleton’s historic City Park, the many thousands of visitors enjoy enhancements in the interior of the park. Superb bands highlighting local musicians, strolling musicians, engaging hands-on children’s art activities including a clay station and face painting, a community mural project, beer and wine gardens and mouthwatering foods, complete with an official spanferkel. Being great old movie buffs and fans of Katharine Hepburn, my husband and I kept telling each other that we ought to get ourselves down to the Trout Museum of Art and see the exhibit of her costumes on display "Katherine Hepburn: Dressed for Stage and Screen." It was supposed to run September 13-December 15, 2013 but luckily it was extended to January 12, 2014. We finally got there one of those awful days when the temperature was -20 with a wind chill of -40. Inside the museum the frigid weather was forgotten as we were taken back to the wonderful days of Miss Hepburn's long and illustrious career. Introduced to the exhibit by watching a narrated film, we then leisurely gazed at each garment and reminisced about the actors, their roles, their personal lives and the era of each film or play. The museum itself is a treasure and bringing this display to Appleton was another jewel in its crown. I highly recommend the Trout Museum, its exhibits and other activities it sponsors.

Katherine Hepburn: Dressed for Stage and Screen will be on display from September 13-December 15, 2013. Featured will be the costumes worn by the legendary Katherine Hepburn on stage and screen. Other offerings are Jazz at the Trout--great jazz concerts in an intimate setting at various times during the fall and winter. Each year the Trout partners with Secura for their Fine Arts Exhibition--one of Northeast Wisconsin's top competitive juried fine arts exhibitions. This year it runs from July 31-August 4. From August 16-30 the Trout features an exhibition of works by Northeast Wisconsin artist celebrating the theme "From Farm to Plate." One of the largest Art at the Park occurs the last Sunday of July featuring over 175 artists representing ten different states who showcase and sell paintings, furniture, drawings, sculpture, etc. Local bands, engaging hands-on children's art activities, a community mural, beer & wine garden. This year was the 53rd Annual Art at the Park which is a free community event. Charge for museum.

The Trout is a lovely spot to spend some leisurely time to look at some great art. The windows allow for a sneak peak, but don't let it fool you, there is more, much more inside to feast your eyes on. The ever changing exhibits feature some well known artists and unique exhibits. Upcoming events promise to be memorable experiences. Jazz at the Trout is a great Thursday night destination. Very reasonable membership and entrance fees.
