Unfortunately Molokai doesn't have good beaches compared to Maui. The long barrier reef makes most of the beaches more like mud flats. This beach was slightly better than the ones near town but still shallow water and poor conditions.

This beach was the best! True that it is a bit shallow, but bring along your boogie board to float on while snorkeling and it's the best. It's also just a great beach to sit back, relax, and enjoy a cold beverage. We were treated to a whale splashing and frolicking out in the water. It's very easy to park and the beach is right there!

Too windy to snorkel the day we visited, but relatively clear water and good views. The drive to the beach shows off the rainy side of the island, passing tall waterfalls and a few large fish ponds.

we have ruined a beautiful place - the fish are amazing - we have killed the reef. : ( !!!! control invasive species : go home !

It is way too shallow for snorkeling or swimming at Murphy Beach. Its only knee deep. At high tide maybe just a little better, but even then too shallow for snorkeling. The coral is in pretty bad shape. We saw lots of dead coral being washed ashore. Looked like it had been broken of by someone. There's some interesting fish though. Fish we hadn't seen before on other Hawaiian Islands. Visibility was pretty good too. It's easy too park and not crowded at all.I'd say Murphy Beach is just suitable for a quick peek underwater.

Molokai is a little short on great snorkeling spots, but this beach was quite good.... Waves were calm here, lots of fish, wish we had more time....

This beach is calm and shallow, so good to visit with small children. We also saw some fish swimming without snorkeling.

Best Beach on the island! we floated, snorkled and swam for hours! This beach is where I first introduced my son to water, sand and swimming. Now we have a little "beach baby" on our hands. Loved this little piece of beach!

This beach is fantastic! Crystal clear water, great snorkeling, nice sandy bottom...what more could you want?

This picturesque beach at mile marker 20 on the road east of Kaunakakai is a great place to relax all day long. It gets a bit crowded on the weekends/holidays as it's popular with locals and the few tourists who drive all the way out there, but during the week you might have it to yourself. The beach itself is fairly narrow, unlike the broad beaches on the west side of Molokai, and this aspect and the dearth of parking are the only significant detractions. The water is very swimmable (no waves to speak of), and there is a nearby reef for scuba/snorkeling activity, though we've been advised there is a rip current near the reef, so if you're interested in that activity it's best to check with a local (the folks at Molokai Dive Shop are one great option). The views across the water of West Maui are spectacular, especially early or late in the day. There are zero services in the immediate vicinity, so you'll want to bring food and drink if you're planning to stay a while.

If this is the "best" beach on Molokai, you can just imagine what the others are like! No facilities whatsoever. If you like to snorkel, go to Maui.

A nice little beach/lagoon where you can stop and have your lunch. You can also swim around and do a little snorkeling.

Murphy's is at about mile marker 20 as you head east. It's a nice beach inside the reef, so it's generally very calm. It's also fairly popular, so it can be somewhat crowded. No services, and it's a dirt parking area.

This was recommended as a great snorkeling site. We checked the tide charts and made sure we went at high tide. We got all our snorkel gear on and you have to start swimming at just above knee level as that is where the reef starts. The reef itself is in bad shape. Each time we were there people were out spear fishing on the reef and they were all getting octopus. I think the must shift around rocks to find them. A lot of the coral had been broken up and jumbled around. There were not a lot of fish and they are wary. You are also snorkeling with only and inch or two of clearance in some places and it is hard to avoid bashing into the reef. We noticed some snorkelers gave up and started WALKING on the coral in reef shoes. Not up to the billing we read about this reef at all. The beach here is narrow and steep and there is not much room for getting into the water and you can easily get bashed into the coral. We did enjoy an afternoon of sitting in the shade and splashing off as best we could to cool off.

The beach fringe looks nice, but in reality the water is about 18 inches deep, there are few fish, and the coral is in bad shape. The plus is that on a Sunday, it is THE place for families, and being Molokai, everyone knows each other, the food is shared, there is music and laughter.
