Kansas is where the Civil War began. The Beecher Bible Church holds a spot in our nations history. This is Exoduster country, and learning Kansas part in our nations history can start with this church!

This church is from the long ago era, still has the wooden straight back pews and the divider for the male and female side of the church. Still an active church, although an historical monument in Wabaunsee Townsite.

Just when you're not sure you've made the right turn to get to the church, you see it! So much history. The lady that was at the church had lived in the area and grew up attending the church all her life. She was very informative of it's history. If the name catches your interest, you have to go by to find out how the church got it.

I rode to Wamego to look around and take some pictures. While there, I read about the Beecher Bible and Rifle Church. I had to make a stop. The church is beautiful. I took a brochure and read about the history of the church. What a history. I really wish I could have gone inside. If you are traveling down 99, take the time to go over and check the church out. It is only 3 miles off the beaten path. There is a little gravel. Don't let that scare you. I made it on my bike after the rain. It was well worth the story.

Just stopped for a photo but enjoyed seeing the church and reading it's history. The grounds around the church were clean and groomed with quaint benches to enjoy some quiet time.

A great example of Kansas Territorial history. Rifles were shipped to early Kansas in boxes labeled "Bibles." Early settlers fought to influence the territorial legislature to vote to make Kansas a "free soil" state rather than allow slavery to be expanded into the territory. And this building is a good example of vernacular architecture using materials at hand to construct a building. Limestone was plentiful, trees were not.

Interesting church that has a lot of history! Worth going to see and learn about the history of this church. It is off the beaten path, so be prepared to drive a few minutes to get here but the scenery is beautiful so it makes the drive nice. Be sure to read the brochures about the church that they have printed up!
